Are you handy enough that if a lightbulb went out in your home you’d be able to change it? Believe it or not, one in five people aren’t so skilled. In fact, a new survey of people in the United Kingdom finds not only do about 20 percent of people not know how to change a bulb — the same number aren’t sure how to boil an egg, either.

Eggs get used pretty quickly here.

Do you smash the eggs on your forehead to crack them? Should peel away every time:)

I was thinking the same thing. Muslims refugees don’t know how to do these things because they have never had them.

I had the same problem, had to ask my mom because when she boiled eggs the shells peeled off easily. I figured I was doing something wrong. She told me to let them sit in your fridge at least a week (assuming that the expiration is far enough in the future) before you use them.

You are buying eggs that are too fresh. When I switched from supermarket eggs to eggs from my butcher (from a farm) all of a sudden my hard-boiled eggs wouldn’t peel.

Put a couple of eggs in a jar with about an inch of water. Put on the lid and shake for about a minute.

This is about the best way to get stubborn shells off eggs without tearing up the white.

Works even if the eggs have been boiled and refrigerated.

The reason older eggs peel easier is air has time to escape the shell’s pores and leave a tiny airy spot between the shell and the egg’s membrane. You’re using super-fresh eggs: dry, hot air dehydrates them while the fridge retards it.

I boil eggs for 10 minutes.
Drain the hot water from the pan & replace with running cold water until you can touch the eggs.
I then roll the eggs around on a countertop to gently break the shell into small pieces.
Then I pick a small piece off, and under running water, peel the rest of the shell off, trying to get under the membrane. It usually comes off in large pieces.
This works 90% of the time, sometimes I too get a bad egg that peels horribly.

“The only way he will eat a boiled egg is if it is deviled or in an egg salad.”

That is the strange thing. I hate boiled eggs more than anything on the planet. Even the smell of someone opening a boiled egg on the other side of the building is enough to send me on my knees retching. However, deviled eggs are almost like crack to me.

Run cold water over them after they’ve cooked. I’ve also seen people put them in small jars of water and shake them.

Not uncommon for them to be refridgerated for some time before you buy them.

Oh, now I think people are just making fun of me.

On FR? I can't believe it! ;)

I started steaming my eggs because I could not get them to peel.

Put about an inch of water in the pan. Put in the steamer basket and bring the water to boil. Put the eggs in the basket and cover. Set the timer for thirteen minutes. Remove the eggs (after the timer goes off) and put under cold running water. Use the jar trick to peel.

Even using very fresh eggs you still get nice eggs. Usually.

Nothing is 100% except God.
