Poor lady. I can’t even imagine what that would feel like and never want to find out. Wow.

She might want to think about closing her doors and windows at night. This time, the dog took one for the team. Next time, someone else might be the meal.

We need to ban the sales of lockpick tools to known mountain lion felons.

This sounds almost identical to a story some months ago. Mountain lion walked in an open door and grabbed the dog if I’m not mistaken. I think it happened in Durango, CO.

The animal took the small dog from the bed and walked out, she told deputies.

My brother’s dog got snatched by a mountain lion in Oregon. I had a friend whose cat likely was eaten by an alligator in the Villages in Florida. It happens all the time. This sounds like an extreme example, but be careful about letting your pets run free.

Hello Mountain Lions - my elderly mother has a delicious little mutt that pisses in the house and snaps at people.

This area not as rural as I expected.

What’s a good defense against mountain lions in suburban California, if hiking, etc... in these areas?

Once worked in a Hollywood bungalow up in the hills below the Hollywood sign. The residents left windows open and had boards running out to the trees. Apparently they let squirrels have the run of the place.

California banned mountain lion hunting back in the 1990’s and now the mountain lions are so overpopulated that they’ve wiped out entire deer populations and now they’re so hungry they’ll eat pets.

Next up is the liberals will be losing their children to the mountain lions.

Out here in the West, you never leave a door open into your house. Even an enclosed back yard is vulnerable. Mountain Lions and bobcats can jump walls. Sometimes I can be sitting in my kitchen and see a bobcat walk across my patio, in broad daylight. They usually leave you alone, but my cousin lost a little dog to a bobcat one night when she let the dog out before bedtime. Whenever a friend moves to Arizona, I tell them not to leave their doors open. Javelinas will walk right into your house if a door is open.

Just great! Now I’m hungry for one of them, ‘Portuguese Podengo’ sandwiches...

But seriously, I would be devastated if that happened to one of my dogs. :(

Around here year round a cougar hasn’t a chance. There are so many turkey hunters this time of year a cat won’t see its death until its too late. Deer season is the same. Protected or not, if the animal presents a possible danger it will be shot.

I live in the Sierra Foothills. A couple of Summers back
I brought home groceries and took them thru the garage
overhead door then I propped open the spring loaded
house door and set them on the kitchen counter. I was so
tired I went to the living room and sat down on the
recliner. Then I proceeded to fall asleep. Waking up
at 7AM I thought I might have heard something in the
kitchen but I dozed off waking up again at 7:30. Walking
around the corner of the kitchen I noticed both doors
were open but that the sensor light to the wash room
was also on. I walked outside thru the garage and
noticed a brown bear munching from a bag of corn chips in
front yard....the same bag I had left on the counter.

Damn bear had been in my kitchen while I was bagging Zs
in the front room. When he finally saw me he snagged the bag
in his mouth, took off running, but stopped long enough
to turn and show off his take!

I now someone who had their dog snatched while halfway out the doggie door. It was a fair sized red heeler and the cat yanked it out like a rag doll. The owner, who is about 5’ 1” and maybe 110 lbs, ran out after the cat like a crazy person and startled the lion into dropping the dog. The dog survived after getting a ton of stitches. The lion food dispenser door was sealed shut.
