I now someone who had their dog snatched while halfway out the doggie door. It was a fair sized red heeler and the cat yanked it out like a rag doll. The owner, who is about 5’ 1” and maybe 110 lbs, ran out after the cat like a crazy person and startled the lion into dropping the dog. The dog survived after getting a ton of stitches. The lion food dispenser door was sealed shut.

A mountain lion entered a Chaffee County home, killing a dog and briefly trapping a mother and her two children inside the house.

The incident began just after 4 p.m. when the lion chased a small dog through a pet door into the home, about nine miles northwest of Salida.

Michelle Bese and two children, ages two and five, were in the house when the lion entered.

Chaffee County sheriff’s deputies helped the woman and her children escape through a bedroom window. They also opened the home’s front and rear doors, hoping the lion would leave on its own.
