Trump just instigated an unprovoked missile attack on a Sovereign Nation that posed no direct or immediate threat to our National Security or American Citizens.
Explain to me why this act of war without any input from Congress is consistent with our Founding Documents and our Constitution?
ping for later
Because we’re already there.
The US has been bombing and drone attacking Syria for years.
One line of defense already put out there is, whether one believes it or not, that the Syrian Government had chemical weapons of which they agreed to give up on Russia’s word from a few years ago. Those chemical weapons constituted a threat to everyone in the region including our troops, hence, it was a threat to our national security according to this theory.
To protect and defend the Constitution you have to protect the country against physical attack. The depth and breadth of strategic planning for this is immense and complex, as you probably realize.
Rogue nations and troublemakers now take us seriously. This is a direct result of the strikes yesterday. And it’s part of the strategic planning for the protection of our country.
No troops.
No continuing actions.
No pilots in danger.
It was covered under the Freedom of Speech Amendment.
Trump said, "Knock off the poison gas!"
If you weren’t an old timer....
Without a doubt, Hamas and Hezbollah, known for showering Israel with missiles willy nilly get these missiles and other weapons from Iran. They can only come through Syria it would seem to me. So, this is a similar situation. I don’t think a lot of us blame Israel when they target weapons stores in Syria as they have done a number of times in the past 2 years.
There are too many existing laws in place to mention here that gave president Trump the authority to do what he did.
Very good point. I’m just weighing everything that I’m reading/listening to. Lots of great arguments for and against. Equally valid.
We all want the best for the country. This issue certainly is ‘multi-faceted’.
And that makes the whole thing constitutional?
it was consistent bc God meant for America to be the hope of the Earth, the city on the hill, the rape of evil. Hence, we must lead.
So we can just put our troops anywhere and then declare a national security situation?
It was consistent with Soros’ globalism.
My fellow Americans, on Tuesday, Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad launched a horrible chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians.
Using a deadly nerve agent, Assad choked out the lives of helpless men, women and children.
It was a slow and brutal death for so many -- even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack.
No child of God should ever suffer such horror.
Tonight I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched.
It is in this vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.
There can be no dispute that Syria used banned chemical weapons, violated its obligations under the chemical weapons convention and ignored the urging of the U.N. Security Council.
Years of previous attempts at changing Assad's behavior have all failed and failed very dramatically.
As a result the refugee crisis continues to deepen and the region continues to destabilize, threatening the United States and its allies.
Tonight, I call on all civilized nations to join us in seeking to end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syria and also to end terrorism of all kinds and all types.
We ask for God's wisdom as we face the challenge of our very troubled world. We pray for the lives of the wounded and for the souls of those who have passed. And we hope that as long as America stands for justice, then peace and harmony will -- in the end -- prevail.
Goodnight, and God Bless America and the entire world.
Bold is mine to highlight the American interests
“And that makes the whole thing constitutional?”
It may. I guess we’ll never know. :D
Yes, The president has to go to Congress for declarations of war. Trump isn’t declaring war.
We’ve been doing this for more than 100 years. It’s not right, but there it is.
I only recommend that we get the facts before losing our minds. It totally does not help Trump or his goals to do this. He’s not an idiot.
It seems that Trump is catching more flak from the right about this maneuver than Obama did with his “personally directed” Drone strikes on civilian targets in the middle east. This attack is a very, very low-key and calm way of letting people know that there is a new sheriff in town.
Even our most peaceful presidents have done stuff like this. This isn’t even Iran-Contra level.
The Enemamedia didn't leak a drop as Jug Ears and Cackles rolled over Africa into Syria.
I suppose this is what it looks and feels like to live in a banana republic with a media that actually reports occasionally.
See, “Did Trump violate war powers resolution?”

War Powers Act...
I come at this from a whole different perspective. And that is that no matter what you do for or to a muslim, at the end of the day, you are still the infidel and the muslim will still hate you. So, for me, I need to see a clear picture of it being in our national interest before we start spending money or blood.
