There is an upside, but a downside as well, to electing someone who has no real political roots or core philosophy. Donald Trump is a pragmatist and nationalist who most enjoys winning, at everything. We didn't nominate and elect Barry Goldwater or even another former Liberal Democrat named Ronald Reagan.

This unfortunately is exactly the situation we are in. Trump is a nationalist and that goes a long way in garnering my support - but I don't expect him to see what is painfully obvious to me and other conservatives, namely that we have a federal government that is operating WAY out of the bounds set for it by the Constitution. Obamacare was and is clearly unconstitutional and needs to be repealed FIRST. Support for a modified Obamacare is support for unconstitutional actions by the federal government. No good will ever come from that.

Return to constitutional governance FIRST, then we can look into legislative fixes for the problems brought about by allowing the federal beast to break its bonds.

i think it’s time to pray hard for President Trump.

Agreed. He's sincere, but not infallible. He really is the only one has the innate strengths and experience to take down this beast, but the swamp is vast. It covers the entire globe. The weirdness of the entire election process screamed open miracle, Divine Orchestration. That didn't change with Ryancare or a tweet.

Infuriating as he may be or appear to be, the President also has the entire assembly of hell pressing down on him to squash him like a bug.

A simplistic movie parallel is The Firm.

It has already been decreed that the Establishment has come to its end, but how long will Obama continue, 42 months?

Not really much of a joke there, as the political scene looks more like Revelation chapter 13 every day.

All Ben Garrison has to do to update the look of his swamp beast is to read the first three verses. Not all tradition is wrong. After all, the beast *is* the global empire establishment. Seven heads but all of the same corrupt mindset down through history.

Devin Nunes jumping out of an Uber vehicle, clandestine meetings, every building and gadget seemingly bugged... I don't think we can even begin to wrap our minds around what we *don't* know.

So you would have been happier if we had left Eric Cantor in office so that he and Ryan could have passed Rubio’s amnesty to clear that issue off the table for Yeb! and there would have been no President Trump?

Trump won the rust belt because of conservatives. Not in spite of them - to think otherwise is delusional.

“...so, why this insistence that the GOP accept it now?”

If I understand their rationalizations, I think what some Trump-or-die folks here are saying is this:

We folks who still love the only valid primary principle of the American ideal, Freedom, have always been considered a roadblock to them and that selling Freedom for a ‘W’ on the political scoreboard is the true definition of Trumpism.

It would have been neighborly to mention that before we voted for the celebrity in chief, but whatever.

At least now we know what the hell 4d chess it all about. Apparently, the entrance to the fourth dimension requires nothing but a frog hop to the Left and a breath of fire to the Right.

With such a childish and wrong attitude toward the brave caucus which just saved his billionaire bacon, I won’t be surprised if the HFC does now oppose funding for the wall.

I was actually quite willing to have my taxes pay for the wall. But it’s not what the populism-over-principle types here are expecting or what the prez promised.

It would seem, ironically, that if the HFC votes to fund the wall, they’d be interfering with the Trump promises again. So instead of risking another angry tweet, the HFC might just vote to uphold Trump’s repeated promise regarding the funding of the wall.

Then, apparently when he moves his queen over two spaces and down a level, then Mexico is going to start writing checks, or something like that. Another promise kept.

I understand some are hurting because Freedom’s David just felled the Goliath hybrid of the pinnacle of populism fused to the epitome of the establishment. Who woulda thunk it possible? Without the remnant of faith in Freedom it would not have been.

But why the new enemies of Freedom like to campaign on a site called “FreeRepublic” is bit to 4d for me to understand.

Ryancare wasn’t just a bad bill it was a complete disaster. I have no qualms that Trunp tried to support it as a “go along with the team” action. But his attacks on the FC which just saved the GOP from itself are unconscionable.

Trumps actions after the bill show that this wasn’t just Ryancare but Trumpcare.

If this is the legislation we’re going to get from him plus his throwing the FC under the bus then we’ve got a President AND a GOPe congress that will only pass leftist legislation. There are NO moderates in the DNC anymore. Just communists.

SMILING! Thanks very much for remembering Louie. I’m taking him to his Vet in an hour for his rabies’ update shot, 3-month flea med, and a look in his ears. I suspect he’s developing another ear infection from Dog Beach. *sigh*.

Yes, I blame Paul Ryan and that convoluted 3 part legislation. Ryan catered to his big donors and to the special interests with all those built-in, “must have’s” that I think “must be eliminated” from the very start!
For example: “Children on parents’ policy up to age 26?” WTH? NEVER! 21 and DONE!

“So you would have been happier if we had left Eric Cantor”

I never mentioned Cantor or anything remotely connected to that election...really..what in hell are you talking about???
Your head is so spun up in politics, you just spit out another talking point.

I still want to know what the FC’s plan for all the employees left without their employer based plans?
What happens 30 days after Freedom Caucus repeals ObamaCare?

When you attack the Freedom Caucus, you are attacking Dave Brat. We elected him to replace the weasel Eric Cantor.
If we had not done that and stopped amnesty, there would not be a President Trump.

Go to your doc - pay cash, negotiate a deal.

That’s the free market solution. Charities can be formed up to provide free healthcare. Doesn’t need government involvement and regulations about what medical care will be provided based on the current political climate du jour nor will it be denied for the same reasons.

“One version I have heard is that the Freedom caucus negotiated and got concessions in the AHCA and then reneged when it came time to vote, i.e. negotiating in bad faith, which does tend to piss off business people. To be successful in business, you have to be willing to say yes to something.”

I have never heard that and furthemore, the bill never had the conservative promises in it. That’s just a lie they want people to believe that the FC retraded the deal and they did not. It never included free market benefits.

Really?? Your serious?? That is the plan that the Freedom Caucus endorses?? That is the plan that will happen in 30 days after you repeal ObamaCare?

Negotiate a deal? On heart surgery? On cancer treatments? How do you do that if you a worker, with a family of 4 who makes $25,000 a year and has $2,000 in the bank?

Seriously, this is what you are screaming about...this is the plan YOU want for yourself? Are YOU willing to be in that same position and still endorse this plan?

Tell the truth...you’re on Medicare right? You have your financials in order for retirement? You’re not that worker I just described are you?

Ok, I did my own homework.

Unfortunately, the link you provided elsewhere on this thread did not quote Poe as saying "the goal posts were moved". Instead, the article gave the reporter's version of the narrative. That of course, is not compelling or even persuasive evidence.

However, drilling down, the Fox and Friends video of the Poe interview reveals Poe actually did use the words. The problem is whether he did so incorrectly.

Most of us would apply the term only where the party accused of the "moving" did so after its final offer was accepted.

Importantly, Poe does not distinguish in this regard whether it was a post-final offer "moving", or simply continuing negotiations. He does mention that Ryan continued to make a few concessions (whether bargained for or not??) and does not mention Trump playing a principle role in the disscusions.

The question remains whether the FC by its statements was at least morally bound to accept Ryan's bill as last revised, or was yet free to continue negotiations.

I think it very likely if Trump displayed disatisfaction with the FC over the status of negotiations, that Poe jumped ship.

“Charities can be formed up to provide free healthcare.”

Show me a charity that will give me free heart surgery. For that matter, show me a charity that will take care of all of my normal medical needs for free!
