One of Philadelphia’s most prominent Latin American events, El Carnaval de Puebla, has been canceled this year because of what one organizer called “the severe conditions affecting the immigrant community.”

The annual parade through South Philadelphia has taken place in late April or early May for the last decade and is the city’s largest Cinco de Mayo celebration. Organizer Edgar Ramirez said as many as 15,000 gather from as far as New England and Chicago.

cinco de mayo was the date of the Mexicans defeating the French. Not considered a big deal in Mexico. But played up in the US to make Mexicans feel important. I must confess as a lover of latin women (amongst others) and mexican food I have enjoyed many Cinco De Mayo’s. But those days are behind me, sigh.

Another win!

Now, if it would just spread to the other 56 states.

Mexican Independence Day is actually in September. Cinco de Mayo is a made up gringo holiday

It's the Mexican Kwanzaa much beloved by liberal schoolteachers

Here’s an idea. In lieu of Cinco de Quattro [that’s what Obama called it] they can do one of those big Mexican Pride parades. They can wave enormous Mexican flags, make lewd gestures, and thumb their noses every time they spot a suspected ICE officer.

Just thinking out loud.

Why even celebrate a military victory against the french. Even a blind boy scout troop could defeat the french

To be fair, Cinco de Quatro (which is the correct name according to the “smartest man to ever be President) commemorates a real event in Mexican history as opposed to Kwanzaa which was made up from whole cloth by a Long Beach State professor/criminal. It is no big deal in Mexico, but American and Mexican beer makers have ramped it up a bunch. (Do liberal school teachers drink a lot of watery beer?)

Halleluiah brother. I could give a rats behind about any Mexican celebration in America. If I crave some Mexican I’ll go to Paco’s Tacos for some grub and a rita.

“I guess there won’t be many waving Mexican flags openly.”

Those people ought to be the first to have their identities reviewed by ICE. And the kids at the high schools who take down the American Flag and run up the one from Mexico.

Why would Mexicans in this country legally, fear immigration officers going to the Cinco de Mayo parade??? If you are here legally, by definition, there is nothing to fear.

Here's what this tells me: The vast majority of the participants in the event are illegals.

IF it were the opposite, they wouldn't cancel. Unless of course, they wanted to make a political point, but I'm skeptical - due to the huge economic hit this will take on the city. Therefore, I hold to my original opinion that the people who would have gone to this are illegals.

Not so "in your face" any more, are you, esse?

Mexico never celebrated this USA invention,a holiday invented in our schools to promote our PC desire to do something to celebrate Hispanics after a month of Black history in Feb. Its tenuous history stems from a minor military skirmish between French troops and Mexican troops near the Mexican village of Puebla. France had loaned Mexico money which Mexico refused to repay. France sent troops to collect it and on the way to Mexico City, met soldiers of the Mexican army at Puebla and there were a few casualties on both sides. Finding that route blocked, the French found another, and overthrew the Mexican government. They installed Maximilian as Emperor where he ruled for seven years until the good old USA, not wanting a stronger neighbor, intervened and forced the French to leave its North American perch.

Cinco de Mayo = Karl Marx’s birthday, May 5th.

Earth Day is Vladimir Lenin’s birthday celebration.
