Wife gravely ill and only treatment available is in Europe. She was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1958 as her Army father was stationed there and she came to the US as literally a "babe in arms". Her birth certificate is lost and I cannot get her a Passport. Working with the State Dept, etc., is frustrating and so far getting me nowhere. Any Freepers have advise? Bless you.
Prayers with you.
I would also talk to the German embassy and especially their consulate:
Since your case is a time limited hardship matter, also contact your local news reporters/TV stations. It is amazing how bureaucrats will change their tune if contacted by the news media.
Bless you! Thank you!
Thank you!
Great point. Use some leverage.
Great ideas. Thank you!
Not to be insensitive to your poor wife’s medical condition, but I would suggest changing her name to something Muslim and she will be deported to Germany post haste.
Was she born in a military hospital or a civilian one? Do you know her mothers (maiden) name? her exact date of birth?
I am fluent in German and live in Europe - if I can be of any assistance, FreepMail me with as many details as you know.
Even at that, proper procedure would be (at least now, for a civilian American giving birth overseas) for said civilian to get a US passport for her baby. Was that done at the time????
Have you spoken to an immigration lawyer? I’d make calls to every one in your city to see who could help.
Start with people here, who then in turn could deal with the authorities in Germany if necessary.
NEXT, if that doesn’t work, turn to wherever the clinic is and see if they have visas of mercy or some such, who knows.
Good luck. Worst case scenario, see if anyone will try what procedure you seek either here or in Mexico. Take all ID and utility bills with address, etc, and lots of cash to Mexico.
Prayers up for your success.
Below is a link to a site w/some info. You can have google translate the page. Search on "stuttgart Geburtsurkunde"
Some highlights from translated page:
" If the exact place of birth in Stuttgart is not clear for you, the Stuttgart registrars clarify."
"US citizens who are born in the US Army Hospital in Bad Cannstatt (5th General Hospital). For Information we have a Step-by-Step Guide to order a Birth Certificate. "
It’s a military related issue. Go to the top. Somebody must be reading posts going to this site

By the way, I was told after giving birth in Europe, by the American Consulate where I made tracks to get my baby an American BC, that there would never be a record of it anywhere, that that piece of paper was IT for birth certificate for him.
But he does have a passport now so I think he should manage even if it were lost.
the city/county/region should have records if the birth is that recent. Contact the city of Stuttgart and ask for instructions. Went through similar with Czech Republic.
It appears that she was born in the military hospital there. As such the US Army should have the official responsibility to maintain the record of birth.
+1....Nice offer.
I live in Stuttgart. If you need something done locally, perhaps I can help.
