Joni Sledge, who recorded the infectious dance anthem We Are Family with her three sisters, was found dead in her Phoenix home, the bands rep said Saturday.
The 60-year-old member of Sister Sledge had not been ill, and her cause of death remains unclear, said the bands publicist Biff Warren.
A friend found Sledge on Friday.
On yesterday, numbness fell upon our family. We welcome your prayers as we weep the loss of our sister, mother, aunt, niece and cousin, read a family statement.

Same here. The song was linked to the team but its kind of weird since the lyric is “my sisters and me”.
Exactly my first thought too
And the obnoxious Howie Cosell in the broadcast booth telling us how smart he was
I think Willie Stargell and the Pirates focused on the “We are Family” part of the song, not the “all my sisters and me”.
Sad to hear of her passing, at only age 60. The older I get, I’ve found myself focusing on how old people are when they pass on. And to see this Sister Sledge at 60, Carrie Fisher dies at 60, etc. makes me wonder about things.................
60 is way too young.
Great. Thanks. Now I’ll have that ear worm with me all day long!
We are family
I got all my teammates’ 8 Balls with me!
We are the 1979 Pittsburg Pirates
Get up everybody and run
We are being chased by the police
I got all my teammates’ 8 Balls with me
We are family, as long as you don’t roll over on me
Get up everybody and run!
There better not be nobody that sings!
Nothing like disco music to do that to a person.
“The older I get, Ive found myself focusing on how old people are when they pass on. And to see this Sister Sledge at 60, Carrie Fisher dies at 60, etc. makes me wonder about things.................”
Me too.
Not to be cars, but cocaine use is not good.
1979 was a good year for pop music but so many of them dead now. Dead, dead, dead.
Donna Summer had several smashes that year including "Bad Girls", "Dim All The Lights" and "Hot Stuff" Now she's dead.
Both McFadden & Whitehead ("Ain't No Stopping Us Now") are now dead. I guess they were stopped after all. By cancer and gunshot respectively.
Michael Jackson had success with his brothers in 1979 but also launched his adult solo career that year with "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" - he is now dead.
Prince was just starting to get rumbles with "I Wanna Be Your Lover" in 1979 and he is now dead too. Apparently by misadventure.
Bee Gees were still going strong in 1979 with "Tragedy", "Love You Inside Out" and "No Heaven, No Earth" going straight to number 1. Now they are pretty much all dead except for Barry. Even little brother Andy, with a slew of hits on his own, is now dead, dead, dead.
Gerry Rafferty who was still scoring hits in 1979 with songs like "Get It Right Next Time" is dead - apparently of alcoholism.
Anita Ward who hit it big with "Ring My Bell" is now ringing her bell in disco heaven.
Doug Fiedor, who launched The Knack to superstardom with "My Sharona" is now dead as a doornail.
Half of Peaches & Herb ("Reunited" and "Roller Skater Mate") is now dead. I think the Peaches part is dead but don't quote me on that.
Another sister act, The Pointer Sisters, who had a big 1979 hit called "Heaven Must Have Sent You" (credited to Bonnie) are also counting their dead in 2017.
Earth, Wind & Fire were flying high in 1979 with smash hits like "Boogie Wonderland" and "After The Love Has Gone" but are now decimated by death.
John Stewart had a banner year in 1979 with "Gold", "Midnight Wind" and "Lost Her In The Sun" - all off the album "Bombs Away Dream Babies". He is now dead, dead, dead.
I can go on and on but I might break the Internet so I'll stop here. So much great pop music in 1979 and now so many of those pop artists dead. We will soon run out of living 1979 pop artists. I guess all of us never get out of this world alive.
60 is way too young.
Not always.
I can think off someone with jug ears, that 60 would be too old.
He was obnoxious. But I do miss him.
You saying that you think Joni Sledge got hammered too many times?
Correct:
Peaches & Herb are an American vocalist duo, once comprising Herb Fame (born October 1, 1942) and Francine “Peaches” Hurd Barker (April 28, 1947 August 13, 2005). Herb has remained a constant in “Peaches & Herb” since its creation in 1966, while seven different women have filled the role of “Peaches”...
Peaches & Herb lay dormant until Fame decided to re-enter the music business in 1976. In his search for a new “Peaches”, Herb again enlisted the assistance of Van McCoy, who suggested that Linda Greene would be suitable for the position. Fame met Greene and concurred, thereby leading to formation of the most successful of the “Peaches & Herb” incarnations to date. Linda’s early musical training (while growing up in Washington, D.C.) was at The Sewell Music Conservatory.

Only time people ever say 60 is too young.
I do not know which song was more repetitive.. We are Family or I’m Too Sexy for My Shirt.
And yet Keith Richards is still with us! HA!
