1979 was a good year for pop music but so many of them dead now. Dead, dead, dead.
Donna Summer had several smashes that year including "Bad Girls", "Dim All The Lights" and "Hot Stuff" Now she's dead.
Both McFadden & Whitehead ("Ain't No Stopping Us Now") are now dead. I guess they were stopped after all. By cancer and gunshot respectively.
Michael Jackson had success with his brothers in 1979 but also launched his adult solo career that year with "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" - he is now dead.
Prince was just starting to get rumbles with "I Wanna Be Your Lover" in 1979 and he is now dead too. Apparently by misadventure.
Bee Gees were still going strong in 1979 with "Tragedy", "Love You Inside Out" and "No Heaven, No Earth" going straight to number 1. Now they are pretty much all dead except for Barry. Even little brother Andy, with a slew of hits on his own, is now dead, dead, dead.
Gerry Rafferty who was still scoring hits in 1979 with songs like "Get It Right Next Time" is dead - apparently of alcoholism.
Anita Ward who hit it big with "Ring My Bell" is now ringing her bell in disco heaven.
Doug Fiedor, who launched The Knack to superstardom with "My Sharona" is now dead as a doornail.
Half of Peaches & Herb ("Reunited" and "Roller Skater Mate") is now dead. I think the Peaches part is dead but don't quote me on that.
Another sister act, The Pointer Sisters, who had a big 1979 hit called "Heaven Must Have Sent You" (credited to Bonnie) are also counting their dead in 2017.

John Stewart had a banner year in 1979 with "Gold", "Midnight Wind" and "Lost Her In The Sun" - all off the album "Bombs Away Dream Babies". He is now dead, dead, dead.
I can go on and on but I might break the Internet so I'll stop here. So much great pop music in 1979 and now so many of those pop artists dead. We will soon run out of living 1979 pop artists. I guess all of us never get out of this world alive.

Herb is still with us at age 75. Peaches died 12 years ago at 58. I looooved "Reunited."
