**VANITY** When Will Birthright Citizenship Be Addressed?

Many of you know this, but some do not: When someone is born in the US, they are automatically a citizen, regardless of the degree of contact that the parents of the child have with the US.

There have been a few court opinions (DC Circuit, IIRC) where one or more well-respected judges basically said that if the Congress were to pass a bill that stated that, for purposes of the 14th Amendment, the United States would have no jurisdiction over any person born in the United States or any of its territories if at least one of that person's parents were not a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident of the U.S. Put that bill on the President's desk, and have him sign it, and you have thus ended birthright citizenship - at least from the moment that such became law (I don't think that you could legally or morally go retroactive on this). IOW, you will have eliminated anchor babies.

Anyone who has read Ann Coulter's book, "Adios, America," knows that the Democrat Party has, since it started the process to get the 1965 Immigration Act put into law, been attempting to replace the electorate to suit its own ends (i.e. permanent control of the Presidency and at least the Senate, and thus the Judiciary). Passing the act that I have described and eliminating anchor babies would go a LONG way toward thwarting the Dems in that goal. More would be needed (like, for instance, strict vetting of voter registration and actual voting), but those are other issues for other discussions.

So, that begs the question: What is Congress doing about this? Has the Trump Administration done anything to get sponsorship for such a bill in Congress? If the judge(s) are correct that such a law is all that is necessary, then a simple majority in both houses would be required (and the Republicans could easily go nuclear in the Senate). Any information, and any comments, will be welcome.

Just so everyone knows, even though this is a vanity, it deals directly with a topic that is front and center in politics and culture.

Vanities are not news. They belong in chat. Please don’t clutter up the news page.

Only if there is a filibuster proof GOP majority, and moreover, this is campaigned on and wins the day. If so, 2020. Otherwise, not in my lifetime.

This practice needs to be addressed.

Walk-in and impregnate and egg is not a policy.

There is no point in taking it up until at least two Trump SCOTUS Justices are on the court.

Agree about the importance. I’m not sure how that gets addressed.....I think it requires a very careful legislative interpretation of the language of the amendment with respect to the ensuing ‘birthright’ question and then to somehow enact clear Congressional legislative language DEFINING the extent of what is and what is not 14th Amendment qualified.....

I don’t really know, but I don’t think we’d get another Amendment through that answers that question once and for all.

At least one parent should be a citizen for the child to also be one. A couple visits the U.S. on vacation from France, for example. The woman is pregnant and unexpectedly gives birth. That kid is a U.S. citizen, not a French one?

Why do both parents need to be citizens?

Of course it is an issue front and center—for the future of our democracy.

He needs to get the tax cuts and repeal of Obamacare through (and get Ivanka away from gumming up the tax cuts with her big childcare entitlement!)—and then get this through, along with addressing voter fraud. Without these immigration issues and voter fraud address, our democracy is imperiled.

And forget “filibuster-proof”—Ryan and McConnell could get all of this through if they wanted to.

It raises the question. It is not a tautology thus begs no question.

No front and center is illegal immigration ,taxes, jobs, Islamic terrorism.

I understand your concern but don’t be silly

Immigration in general is an issue, and if the onslaught of low-skill, leftist immigrants isn’t stemmed, along with the integrity of our voting system restored, all of what we do in the issues will be overturned in record time—for good.

You are the silly one.

This doesn’t sound quite right.

Declaring that someone born in the US, to whomever, is not subject to the jurisdiction of the US would effectively decriminalize unlawful actions committed by such persons - you can not prosecute someone not subject to your jurisdiction. “Subject to the jurisdiction” was included to specifically EXCLUDE diplomats and such. Not immigrants.

There is an excellent treatise on this written by a senator back in the mid 60’s - I’ll see if I can find the link.

You apparently have slept through many news cycles

IF you want SCOTUS to adjudicate this, because it will go there, as currently populated you are beyond silly

We need to stop welfare eligibility for anchor babies. If momma isn’t a citizen, why are we paying for prenatal care, labor and delivery, and then 18 years of food stamps, Medicaid, and housing for the kid?

I see your approach is to be nasty on other threads as well.

That is just one part of the overall agenda the OP listed.

I will avoid interacting with you here, insofar as I notice and recall your screen name, in the future.
