Obama’s Protections for L.G.B.T. Workers Will Remain Under Trump
New York Times ^ | January 30, 2017 | Jeremy Peters

WASHINGTON — The White House said on Monday that President Trump would leave in place a 2014 Obama administration order that created new workplace protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

In a statement issued in response to growing questions about whether Mr. Trump would reverse the Obama order, the White House said the president was proud to embrace gay rights.

“President Trump continues to be respectful and supportive of L.G.B.T.Q. rights, just as he was throughout the election,” the statement said. “The president is proud to have been the first ever G.O.P. nominee to mention the L.G.B.T.Q. community in his nomination acceptance speech, pledging then to protect the community from violence and oppression.”

The decision to keep the order, the statement added, was Mr. Trump’s. It uses stronger language than any Republican president has before in favor of equal legal protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people, though that is not likely to quiet Mr. Trump’s critics on the left.

The move could also anger conservatives who had hoped a Republican president would end some socially liberal policies.

While Mr. Trump remains opposed to the right of same-sex couples to marry, he has been more open to it than many in his party. But there could be another political cost to his decision: On the eve of the announcement of his pick to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court, it could reopen the divisive debate over same-sex marriage and transgender rights, and subject his nominee to more scrutiny over his or her views on those issues.

The Obama order banned companies that do federal work from discriminating against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees. It was the first time the government explicitly protected federal workers from discrimination based on gender identity.

If his base demands that he alone must take every arrow while everyone, Repugs and dems destroy him on every issue the base holds dear I would think they should realize this is the least of their problems.

Well no President will do things where I agree with everything they do.

I disagree with Trump on this. Really the first move so far I disagree with.

You know, considering one’s life on this earth is but for a blink. . .the older I get, the more I realize the only thing that counts in life . . . a relationship with JESUS CHRIST. He is either LORD OF ALL or NOT AT ALL. http://thereishopeinJesus.com I am very thankful for Freeper prayer warriors.

Jeremy Peters - guess what? Trump’s not going to chain women to stoves or drag blacks behind his pick-up truck either. But you liberal ‘elites’ sure will get YOUR hate out... Jerk.

- MSM prints fake news story of Trump recinding gay rights.
- Trump responds that as said during campaign, he’d leave them as is.
- Press then says that’s a problem for his sumpreme court pick.

What do we learn from this?

- Trump again has stuck with doing what he said he would during the campaign.
- The MSM prints rumors as news.
- No matter which decision Trump chooses, the MSM says it’s wrong.
- the MSM prints fake news.

Trump is not a social conservative. He grew up in Queens/Manhattan.

Trump is not a social conservative, which everyone knew before the election. This should not be a surprise and it is not going to change. He grew up in Queens. He didn’t grow up in Kansas.

Trump plays the media like a drum. He gives the media nothing to use against him because he knows they will any way. Trump knows damn well if he puts conservative originalists on the court that same-sex “marraige” and abortion is going back to the states, As far as “protections” for queers, they’ve always had the same rights anyone else has, but they’re too stupid to figure that out. Trump’s inner circle are devout Catholics and Evangelicals. The days of radical homosexuals forcing their immoral, peverted beliefs down the throats of Christians is over. No more bakers having their lives ruined because they don’t want to bake a cake for a couple of lesbians who want to get “married”.

“I will never accept this biological aberration.”

I have never have, I never will. And neither will god fearing people. But, I understand the protection of them in the workplace.

But, their marriages need to be made illegal and they should all be required to undergo gay conversion therapy.

Why would Trump have anything against gay people? He’s one of the happiest guys I’ve ever seen.

Trump is just sandbagging the semen demons and fur trappers. Patience, people.
Before six months go by, once he’s got his bureacracy on a leash, my fearless prediction is that he will start rolling back Obama’s invidious discrimination on their behalf.

I guess my “he’s playing chess” comment was cryptic. He knows he’ll catch flak. Here’s my thinking from another thread re: gay adoption.

It’s a trick! It’s a trick! Trump is going to round up all LGBT’s and put them in concentration camps! Rachel Maddow told me so!

that’s an easy Theory to shoot down. I live 40 minutes away on Staten Island. I am a social conservative.

Oh, you must think I am uninformed. I know you are from Staten Island. After all, you must post hundreds of times a day. Staten Island is not like the rest of NY. Richmond County (yes, I even know its actual county name) voted for Trump over Hillary 57% to 40%. Traditionally, the House seat in Richmond County (and usually shared with a piece of Brooklyn included - you probably think I didn't know that either) is Republican. I'm sure you remember the Molinari family.

Now, let's look at Queens: Hillary 76% and Trump 22%. Let's move to another island - Manhattan (New York County) threw caution to the wind and a mere 10% voted for Trump and a whopping 87% voted for Hillary.

Richmond County is the outlier. That is the place people from Manhattan look down on and think they are better.

So, yes. To conclude and end your lesson, people in Manhattan and Queens are different and massively more liberal. It is a different culture than Richmond is and you may as well be 400 miles away.
