Wow. Hard to believe and he was only 69, but what a lot of living he did in that time.

Still love listening to Live at the Fillmore East, 1971.

There were the original Jam Band. When they were altogether in their prime, they were magical.

God Speed Butch and thanks for the music, and the hours of entertainment.

Allman Brothers put on one of the best live shows.
Butch Trucks was a big part of that.

I would assume he is/was Derek Trucks father? Saw Derek perform a couple of times. Fantastic musician.

RIP Butch. You were one of the best.

Butch was Derek’s uncle. Both part of the Allman “family.” Played extensively with the Derek Trucks band and The (Susan) Tedeschi Trucks Band. Hometown Jacksonville folks. The Allmans are still one of my favorite bands. I’m old and remember when they first came on the scene. Got to see Derek play with Eric Clapton at the Jacksonville Veterans Arena a few years back. Clapton gave him a lot of play time. In my opinion Derek is as good as Clapton

The Allman Brothers Band had two drummers/percussionists. Jaimoe and Butch.

This a bummer. Idlewild South, Live at the Filmore East, Brothers and Sisters, Eat A Peach, all those early Allmans Brothers albums are so great.

Now hopefully Butch can jam out with Duane and Berry once again.

"Thank YOU very much! Sure has been a FINE weekend! Berry Oakley, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks, Jai Johnny Johnson, Gregg Allman, and I'm Duane Allman. Thank you."

The band had both dual guitars (not lead and rhythm) and dual percussionists as well.

I’ve seen Derek with DTB and Tedeschi Trucks Band. Whole lot better IMO with “his own” band. I wanted to hear Derek play and he was little more than backup with Tedeschi. Kind of two different types of music. Susan Tedeschi is very talented. I just wanted to hear more of Derek.

"Still love listening to Live at the Fillmore East, 1971. "

I caught Zeppelin there in 1969.

I've read that Greg Allman is uncredited on many famous records. They say he'd show up when asked, play his heart out and leave with a bag of cash.

Layla was one of those songs.

"There were the original Jam Band."

Saw them twice on New Year's Eve - not the same year, though. (Once in Orlando FL '75 and again in New Haven CT '79).

Are you sure you're not thinking of Leon Russell, who was a member of "The Wrecking Crew"?

CORRECTION: Duane...Not Greg.
