Actor Gorden Kaye, who was best known for his role in the long-running BBC sitcom 'Allo 'Allo!, has died aged 75.

The star's former agency confirmed to BBC News he died at a care home on Monday morning.

Kaye played cafe owner Rene Artois on the hit show, which centred on the fictional exploits of resistance fighters in World War Two in German-occupied France.

He appeared in all 84 episodes of the sitcom, as well as a stage version.

Kaye's career almost came to an abrupt end in 1990 when he was critically injured in the Burns' Day storm.

Back in the seventies and early eighties I thought. British comedy was funny. Monty Python fawlty towers and a few others were a hoot. I liked this one too. After a while they put more sitcoms on PBS. They were pretty bad. What they have today is mostly PC liberal crappola. I stopped watching public TV years ago. The wife still watches. I get a glimpse every now and again.

No longer funny.

Suggested watching on Netflix: The IT Crowd. It has moments that are gut busting. "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?" Also Doc Martin, about a socially inept and brutally rude surgeon who develops a phobia over the sight of blood and is reassigned to the little Cornish town where he spent his childhood. Not as blunt force funny as The ITC but very addicting.

I've been a Britcom fan since Doctor In The House (late 60's).The more recent ones are,as you say,are pretty bad but many of them,up to (and including) the first couple of seasons of Ab Fab,were great.

‘Absolutely fabulous’ had its moments. As did ‘are you being served’.

Now.....Lots of PC crap......like American tv lately.

Now, non-network American dramas have bits of hilarity. Breaking Bad, Fargo and Better Call Saul for existence. For networks..... House. Dramas that make you laugh out loud at times.

Good one.

Hopefully, they’ll bury him with that sausage with the painting in it.

I enjoyed him and the show.
