Seven people of color were among the 20 acting nominees, while 'La La Land' earned a record-tying 14 noms and Mel Gibson landed a best director nod.

So how much of the process was skin color and not acting skill?

Appeasers think they can throw a few bones at the aggrieved SJWs and they will be happy. A couple of years we went through this with “Twelve Years a Slave” getting awards out the wazoo and Hollywood thought “there, we’re good for a while” but last year they were called a bunch of racists so they need to make damned sure that black people win in every category this year. But it won’t work, they’ll be called racists again, if not next year than the one after. Because it works.
Clearly, last year couldn’t simply be because no minority gave a performance that even this group of lefties found worthy, could it? This year is going to be filled with Participation Trophies in the list of nominees.
ZERO chance the Mel Gibson is given an award
I don’t think he has yet fully groveled at Hollywood’s feet in abject repentance for his “racist” and Christian past.
Hacksaw Ridge - Great movie! The combat scenes will “get your attention”. (been there, done that, got the ‘Fruit Salad”, etc.)
(Although, no one reloads and the M-1s seldom give the “ping” of the clip being ejected. LOTS of brass ejected, though!)
So what happens when none of them win?
Frankly I have not seen any of these pictures and probably want.
Only picture I may see is “Hacksaw Ridge”, otherwise I want see them.
I classify most of these as what I call “Art House” pictures. They just don’t nominate enough wide release films that do any real box office that most people see.
The Awards have truly become an in house deal. Will not be watching.
Once they start considering the color of the winners the Oscars become more meaningless than they already are.
.
So, they could have a "best black" categories for acting and maybe others like director. Of course, some will complain that "it's not the same as a 'real' Oscar", but then, that's the nature of affirmative action. When they hand out black Oscars this year, they will be just as bogus as they would be if they were in a special category.
It's fun to watch Hollywood eat its own.
Now watch the Hispanics complain.
And how many LGBT-based movies were nominated?
And the oscar for the most gratuitous use of a skin color goes to..
Oscar? Hollywood?
You must be joking.
I think they have milked this little Charade long enough.
NO THANKS!
#BOM:
Black Oscars Matter.
Yeah, I’m actually rooting for Denzel.
Somebody I know from high school is a facebook friend, and an advocate for gays in scouts. His posts illustrate the liberal ‘ratchet effect’ very well:
No gays in scouting = scouts are homophobic racist babykillers.
Ok, scouts now allow gay members, but not leaders = scouts are homophobic racist babykillers.
Ok, scouts now allow gay leaders, but allow the sponsoring institution (often a church) to disallow gay leaders at the local level = scouts are homophobic racist babykillers.
The scouts got no favorable press, and still face the wrath of leftists, even after relenting to 90% of what the leftists want. They never give an inch...once the ratchet is turned a notch, it will never go backwards, and the only movement in the future can be in their direction.
Same goes with calling Hollywood racist...the Mideast ‘peace’ process...just about any leftist issue you can think of.
You’d think the scouts and Hollywood would learn.
I expect every ‘big’ category to go to the Black on the nomination list. Hollywierd has to atone for no Blacks winning last year. Personally, i only watch to see the clothes. I figured out, decades ago, it was just them awarding themselves Oscars. We, the People, show what we like by the box office proceeds.
I hope Meryl Streep wins Best Actress (again) just to tick off all the usual suspects.
