I was wondering if there were any freepers here who are fans of the Red Gambit novel series, by Colin Gee. It's a series dealing with World War III, but set shortly after the end of World War II. In it, Stalin basically decides to stab the Western Allies in the back and restart the war with a eye to taking over all of Germany, and perhaps Western Europe as well.To stop this new enemy, the Allies must seek the help of their former German adversaries.
It is a very good alternate history read.
Sounds like what General Patton was predicting before he was killed, er, uhm, I mean, died in that accident.
The allies at the time were well aware of the possibility.
That’s why “Operation Unthinkable” had to be, well, thought about.
Fortunately the advent of the Atomic bomb calmed things down.
I just checked Amazon. It’s on kindle unlimited so I ordered book one. I’ll check it out.
Somebody gave my brother one of these. He said, “it’s self-published, so you expect pure garbage, but in this case, it was inpure garbage.”
He didn’t like it?
Hated it. Good idea, but writing worthy of self-publishing.
Read a couple of chapters from the first book. Basically the story got lost in the details. Characterization and sense of time suffered massively.
IMO, it gets better as it goes on.
Also, Colin Gee is a first time author, so his work may naturally be a bit, well, rough.
Not very good writing, huh?
As I say, that is what was reported to me.
A first time SELF-PUBLISHSED author... Rough times 100.
Still, all things considered, in my opinion, he did a pretty good job.
*I* didn’t read it, so I cannot really say.
I tend to disregard criticism from people who havent read the book[s] for obvious reasons. Whilst they are not without issues, I’m very happy with them.
Why send this to me? I didn’t criticize the book; I only reported what I heard.
Probably because I’m an inexperienced muppet who simply replied to the general string. The board style isn’t fantastic. No harm done and offence meant. I get very little criticism overall fortunately.
