Waitress Kelly Carter said a couple had written on the receipt: "Great service don't tip black people."
Owner Tommy Tellez told BBC News the response has been "phenomenal".
People have been dropping by the restaurant to give Ms Carter cash, Mr Tellez said, and a YouCaring campaign has raised over $300 (£245) for her.
Her regular customers have been dropping by to give her hugs.
Tipping is customary in the US, where restaurant servers often earn less than the minimum wage, with tips supposed to make up the difference in pay.
The white couple who left the note appeared to be in their mid-20s, and left after spending $30.52 (£25) on food.
Ms Carter told local media that one of the diners had even complimented the breakfast she served them on Saturday.

Sounds like a hoax. If real, it is despicable.
Odd that the hoaxers try so hard to invent racist behavior with tipping. Of course there are exceptions, but as a group, black people don’t tip. As a group, black people are known to be horrible customers for restaurant waiters and waitresses, intentionally working them very hard, nitpicky requests, complaints, just a difficult, difficult table. Then, they get stiffed. Ask anybody who’s waited tables.
Saying Canadians is too broad stroke. You probably know who it is. Quebecois. Snarky, picky, rude and demanding. Then, stiffed. Been there, done that.
Yep. Back in the day, if we didn’t get a tip, we may have muttered under our breath, but that was the extent of it. Though I knew one waitress at a coffee shop who took a little more action - she had a regular who did not tip, and always ordered a bismark. His bismark always had a hole in the bottom.
Tipping is not a custom in Japan.
Japanese who have been in country for a while in my exposure are scrupulous about tipping. Stingy, but scrupulous. Exceedingly polite, too. Tourists are another matter.
Awww, isn't that just so special. Wish I had the nerve to start such a scam.
Waitress Kelly Carter said a **SANTA** had written on the receipt: “Great service don’t tip black people.”
News media just getting warmed up going to ba a lot of them go out of business.
This really gets old after a while.
Great to see the Euro shrink to our Dollar!
£ is the symbol for the British pound (this article comes from the BBC World News).
The symbol for the Euro is .
Regards,
I’d say “educated” cursive with a sort of old-fashioned stylized “r” and a bit of a leftward slant.
If they were "real" racists, I doubt they would even have eaten the food. This story smells as bad as the feces that hoaxter Tawana Brawley painted all over her own body in an attempt to blame "white dudes" for a crime that didn't happen.
Thank you for clarifying...
The symbols for the pound and Euro are quite similar.
Correct and when I was in Japan I do not tip. When I am in the US I do, because that is the custom in the US.
You adopt the customs of the country you are in.
Interesting take. You may have the answer on that one. Simply turnabout.
they are adapting ...having national ‘traditions’ is fine . But if you travel abroad , it is best to comport to the ‘traditions’ of the countries you travel to , in many respects. Adjusting comportment goes a long way to endear ‘ the locals’ to folks from your country . Not only yourself , but all of their fellow countrymen that follow . That is a good thing . The opposite is to do nothing to comport to reasonable local ‘traditions’ and then have ‘the locals’ begin to develop a contemptuous attitude to all people from that country . ie: Canadians , who are usually seen in the US as wilful clueless tightwads and cheapskates . Can’t afford to tip? Then why travel ? Just stay home .
sadly , that’s the case , and they have become the subject of derision and contempt among those tasked to serve them . They look like ‘us’ , they ( more or less) sound like ‘us’ , but they are not us....
That makes me very, very embarrassed and disappointed. I suppose they think because they’re not American, or just passing through, that they needn’t be decent. Shameful.
My apologies on behalf of the cheap and miserable people from Canada.
The secretary, born and raised in the south responded saying...”They know their place”.
Call BS. The giveaway is the moron could not resist putting in the note that she gave excellent service. How stupid are these people?
