FULL TITLE: Pictured in handcuffs: Fort Lauderdale military vet and ISIS obsessive is led to his cell after it's revealed he had gone AWOL several times during service and was investigated for child porn
The suspected gunman who authorities believe shot dead five people and injured six after opening fire in Fort Lauderdale International airport had gone AWOL several times while serving in the military and was investigated for child pornography, authorities have said.
Esteban Santiago, a 26-year-old Iraq war veteran, was taken into custody and was pictured in handcuffs Saturday as police led him to the Broward County Main Jail, where he is held on suspicion of murder. Police believe he flew out of Anchorage, Alaska on a 9:52 pm Delta flight and checked his gun during the flight. Santiago loaded his gun in the airport bathroom before silently and indiscriminately shooting victims in the baggage claim area in Terminal 2 on Friday about 1 pm, officials said.
The Army vet was getting psychological treatment, according to his brother, who said he didn't know precisely what the captured man was getting treated for. His family also said Santiago had been acting strangely after returning from Iraq.
FBI investigators have not ruled out terrorism as a reason for the attack, a special agent at the bureau's office in Miami said Saturday. They were set to pursue 'every angle' to try to determine the motive behind the deadly attack. The bureau believes Santiago came to Fort Lauderdale to carry out the attack but chose it without any specific reason. Investigators haven't identified any triggers so far. Santiago is expected to appear in federal court Monday.

Yeah, the FBI, CIA and TSA (thanks for the friendly grope, you pervs) were on top of their game for this winner. I go through a gauntlet to get on my flight and will never fly again unless it is an emergency. I can drive anywhere in the continental US and that’s where I will stay.
being institutionalized would have been a lot better for everyone around. How many signs were needed? I was in a psych ward after my head injury for a few weeks. I met some very nice guys on their meds that did some pretty sick things while off of them.
The curious part was a guy from Alaska flying to Fort Lauderdale with no luggage other than the checked gun. How do you span climate zones like that without a need for clothing of some sort? That should have raised some questions.
How did people hear gunshots if he “silently” killed people?
This can be prevented in the future if we ban Delta” flights.

Be careful what you ask for... Currently, a person can be deprived of his rights only after an adjudication by a court of mental disability resulting in a court order specifying what rights are suspended.
Many folks go to shrinks for issues- and under your criteria, they all would be prohibited from exercising rights?
One protection to having rights are controls to prevent government from carte blanch dismissal power; and that is due process.
The real issues are manifold- FL airports are gun free zones- even in the “unsecure” parts like baggage claim and ticket counters, so any fruit loop or jihadi ( I repeat myself) can wreck havoc at will, only a cop can intervene.
Granted, the FBI, Army NG and local authorities may have had an opportunity to defuse this somewhere along the way, but the only sure way to do so is via jack-booted thuggery by the government-deny everyone rights to keep us all safe- yeah; and that will not stand, nor will it actually work ( look at Chicago, the UK etc).
The cry and hue should be directed also towards FL state government- why prohibit lawful carry of arms in unsecure areas? Gun free zones are fine until someone like this guy go ballistic, then they run amok w/o risk until cops show... All too often the men in blue are there to pick up the pieces, as in this case. In fact, a bill that would have allowed CCW in unsecure areas of FL airports was quashed in the last legislative session.

What should we suspect about a cold calculating mass killer who throws Muslim terrorist hand signs and posts the pics...Should we then be wary what he might be planning to do?...

Also the stop and connecting flight in Minneapolis. It wasn’t an overnight, but I’d be looking to see if he made contact w/anyone at the airport, or if he left the airport before his flight out.

Are PP’s NG regs different than US Regs? General Discharge is NOT the same as Honorable and 3 months service is not kosher. Mental Eval would have eliminated him from service in any Military US Branch.
