Anyone able to recommend a good address book, simple database-type program for Windows 7? Interested in free or reasonable cost (not $150 lol).

For simple stuff, I use an old free program called Access Manager. It uses a password to open and I use it mainly to store passwords, etc, (has a function so if you include a URL in the notes section, it will allow clicking on a ling icon which lists the URLs included for quick opening of the relevant web page).

I back up the .DAT file periodically because it stores all the data and password function.

I second the notion on FileMaker Pro. Easy to use and powerful. They used to have a junior program called Bento, but it was pulled.

A older version of FM Pro would meet your purposes fine. Version 7 or newer should work on Win 7.

How many addresses do you HAVE, anyway? If you only have flat file needs, couldn’t a simple spreadsheet or Outlook do the job?

Paradox for DOS was wonderful
Loved Paradox, and Borland's flat file database too - Reflex.
Paradox actually still exists bundled into WordPerfect Office X8 – Professional Edition.

Sounds like you might be looking for a PIM [Personal Information Manager]. There are numerous ones, usually free.

Essential PIM

Search PIM at Google or the many freeware websites for others.

Speaking of Borland, they had a kick-ass word processing program in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s — “Sprint”. When MS began their bundling with new PCs, it kicked to the curb the best programs such as Sprint and WordPerfect.

I still don’t understand how the gubmint hasn’t tried to breakup the MS monopoly. Maybe Trump’s DoJ can look into it.

It seems like there should be numerous apps that already do this kind of thing—look for “contact management.” No need to reinvent the wheel! Good luck.

Google has a free contact manager. You just open a gmail account. Use a fake name if you want. It is browser based so you can get to it from any device by just logging in to your account.
