Need help. Had Windows XP. Computer crashed. Have replacement with Windows 7 and can't get some older software to work in compatibility mode. Also, have CanoScan Scanner and need to get it working on Windows 7. Any help appreciated.
When you go to this page it will load with whatever operating system it detects (Win7 in your case). Change the search to Vista and it will give you the download link for the Vista driver.
It's worth a shot. I have an older scanner that is running on Win7 32 bit using the Vista driver so in my case it worked.
FReeper help requested ... PING!
Thanks to Auntie Mame for the ping!!
Make a XP VM. About 3GB. Assuming you still have the original software and drivers and could install it in the VM.
Good...I just came on the thread, and was going to suggest VueScan. I use it for the Mac. I have been using it for 10 years because I had a Canon scanner and the software just sucked.
VueScan is very powerful, and it gets updated often.
Good luck.
I suggest you pay the money for the software.
Once you begin using it, when you do purchase a new scanner at some point, you won’t even bother installing the crappy vendor software. It is well worth paying the money.
Agreed. GREAT program, though I only use it on the Mac, don’t know how it works on Windows, but I bet it works great.
By the way, love your Freep name! One of my favorite books...:)
If you do have the cd software then right click on the setup file.run in compatibility mode when you install.
I bought this ScanSnap iX500 scanner when I can across a box of old photos. The cost is high but you are paying for the Adobe Acrobat software plus the scanner.
This scans any size from photos to normal pages and does both sides if you want on a single pass. It scans as fast as you feed in the paper or photo. It includes the Adobe Acrobat XI. Saves as a pdf or jpg, Word doc, Excel
This beats a flatbed scanner.
Does not support Twain which I think is XP and before.
I have Windows 7

I really wish I could get Photo Studio 2000 (Canon CD disk) to work on Windows 7, but it won't do it in compatability mode, so I think that is the end of that effort.
Good...glad to hear you got something working.
As an aside, I detest Canon’s software. I love their hardware though. I have a Canon scanner and printer.
My printer is very old...a Canon i960 I bought it around 2002 or 2003, and it has always produced wonderful printed images. Then, about 4 or 5 years ago, it refused to print and gave me a bizarre error message.
Apparently, there are absorbent pads in the printer, and over time they absorb ink that must come from somewhere (maybe drips from the ink jet orifice after printing?)
Anyway, I love the printer, and found information online that told you how to disassemble the whole thing, take the pads out (There WERE a lot, and they were soaked all the way through) rinse them a specific way, dry them in the oven at 225 degrees and put them back in.
It worked! Still using it...:)
Try....
