Hi Jim, I didn't know how to email you privately so I'll use one of the more casual forums. This is not a new topic, I'm sure, but let me add my voice to whatever clamor there is to migrate Free Republic to a more modern forum software package, one that
1. Has functions which are easy to see/find and invoke
2. Allows easier upload of pictures
3. That allows email notification of replies to comments
4. That allows editing after a comment is posted
5. That has text editing features so one doesn't need to know HTML code in order to add emphasis.
6. That has a Search function for previous posts
7. That is easier to navigate to the specialty forums such as "Gods, Graves, Glyphs", which, had it not been mentioned in a random post, I never would have found here on FR.
This is the modern era, there are far, far better forum software packages out there. Free Republic may well experience a rapid growth in users post Trump victory. We'll want to make joining and participating fully in FR as easy as possible.
Amen, brother.
I absolutely believe that any "Freeper" who sends spam (non Free Republic-related) to fellow Freepers should be banned for life.
No
This is the only forum I visit daily ...No ads.... love the format
I donate because I love FR and don’t expect others to pay for my participation.
I had a 64 Olds 442 back in the day...I’d love to have that car again today and if I did, I wouldn’t change a thing...
Meanwhile, I drive a Scion FR-S 150 miles a day on my commute through the KY twisties. 112,000 miles and all I’ve done so far is change the oil, air filter and tires. And averaged 32mpg.
I’d still love to have the Demolition Man car in the garage for those Sunday drives through the spectacular roads and small towns around here, though. :)
I would like to go on record as saying this site is perfect as is.
Please do not change it.
It has several extremely important features that no other site has. Repeat: no other site.
It should be the same for elections and citizenship.
Those that care enough will work to be worthy and will put forth an effort that enables them to take part.
This ain't Twitter or Facebook, thank God.
The principle is “you have to care enough” to be worthy.
I like FR the way it is.
The more I think about it, there are so many ways to get around that now, it may be archaic.

It's so much more efficient to be a text-only Constitutional discussion archive.

Oh please, can’t something good just be left alone? I recently joined Facebook and I hate the way it works, freerepublic is SO much better!
I come here for the content and excellent comments, not the format of the site. That said, I think some of your ideas have merit.
Mr. Robinson does not want even the appearance of being behold to outside forces, not that he would ever be.
I applaud that stance.
The absolutely most obnoxious form of web advertising that exists, and probably the main source of trojan horses and viruses, bar none.
Followed by click bait specific image that promises, the 10 most (insert interesting image) list which require 4 clicks or more for each item ) each with new obnoxious ads, and the original magnet image never appears.
The only way to handle those is to quit the site, if the "magnet" image is not among the first two shown.
Of course, that requires discipline on the viewer's part.
I love this format because it is QUICK on the downloads. I have a slow internet speed because of where I live and this format works great for me.
I like your tagline. Wouldn’t surprise me at all, because some days it certainly seems like he’s using arguments first made here into his show. The ease and speed of which a person can navigate the news and comments here can bring a person up to date in very short order. Despite some other poster’s complaints, I’ve been reading and posting here using a hand held device exclusively for almost 4 years now. If other sites were to follow the design Jim and John have established here, I might be more inclined to spend more time on them.
Just an observation. The all (mostly) text version of Free Republic works and gets through when little else will. I can attest to getting 100% of my news for periods of time in Afghanistan and Iraq. The larger news organizations are so bloated with animaniacwhizbangisticalness that in a low bandwidth situation they are useless.
