In about 1989 I was working at Sequent Computers, offshoot of Intel. We had a company meeting and ended up in a very heated discussion with developers and programmers as to whether those who wanted to could use their (company owned) computers at home for porn.

Makes me wonder what the next big thing will be that we dont see coming.Someone does know already, and they are already figuring out how to make money off of it, and will be very rich when it arrives.

Around 1980 I saw a film from the Treasury Dept. showing the printing of government checks. They explained that some of the machinery was from the 1800s but still worked well for whatever it did.
They probably have replaced it by now.

That’s one problem with predicting the future: some things will just be completely different from what we know, so we have no terms to express what it could be.
Other problem is some things seem a great idea until you actually have to live with the consequences.

PDP-11, PDP-10. Hot stuff back in the late 70s, early 80s.
RSX, RSTS/E, RT-11, operating systems. Good stuff.
Basic Plus2, DIBOL, programming languages.
Memories.

PDP-10s and 11s are Digital Equipment Corp mainframes. The 360s and 370s are IBM mainframes. IMPs are interface message processors, Honeywell minicomputers functioning as routers. The Honeywells also could function as terminal interface processors, TIPs
