Full-blown word riot on Fox News Sunday. Juan Williams is asserting that tomorrow the electoral college has the right to "examine if Trump is suitable to be president." Carl Rove is about to explode; moderator Wallace is losing control of the "argument."
And, good point.
That may be true, but it does not preclude the fact that feudalism was built around the concept that only certain people had rights, and the serfs existed to serve them.
Actually, I think that the concept that common people are individuals who have a claim on human rights existed long before the Middle Ages. And so did the concept that only a few elites have rights and everyone else exists to serve them. These contrasting beliefs about human rights have existed throughout history. Only in recent years was the concept of existing to serve elitists spun as being good for us (as in Socialism).
“Maybe for nobles, but not for serfs. Serfs farmed the nobles land, but had no ownership rights.”
No actually serfs farmed their lord’s land in exchange for protection and farmed land granted to them for their own food. In socialism no person owns land nor does anyone have any legacy rights to land.
“Other than land and gold, there wasnt much private property worth owning back then.”
Except flocks, herds, rights over rivers and ponds, trading rights, mills, farm equipment, weapons, etc.
The medieval economy was far more sophisticated and diversified than many people think. You might want to read Christopher Dyer’s Making a Living in the Middle Ages: The People of Britain 850-1520.
Good point. Unfortunately, I barely have time to read all the stuff I actually need to read.
Could free up some time by staying off FR, but then......I’d miss out on all the good discussion.
Interfering with the electoral process is a felony. It is time to lock people up for breaking law.
The more they resist, the more pain they cause themselves. He thrives and becomes more energized when they up their attacks.
“That may be true, but it does not preclude the fact that feudalism was built around the concept that only certain people had rights, and the serfs existed to serve them.”
All people had rights. Some people had some rights others did not. Nobles had certain rights over land serfs did not have precisely because they did not own land. But all people had rights.
“Actually, I think that the concept that common people are individuals who have a claim on human rights existed long before the Middle Ages.”
Not as we commonly see it today. The missing factor was the Christian worldview. The Church’s understanding of the importance of consent, the salvation of souls, individual sin and redemption added a dimension to the understanding of human beings which created our understanding of individuality, freedom, and human rights. Previously such concepts ONLY applied to those people within a given system. After the Middle Ages, the concepts applied to everyone everywhere.
If you haven’t read any of the books I have mentioned, then you can’t know what you’re talking about. All you can do is speak from cliches and stereotypes.

Agreed! :)
Thanks marron.
Post of the day.
Written like a true lefty idiot. Almost every major MSM outlet has shown themselves to be the purveyor of false news, from Jayson Blair at the NYT to NBC putting explosive in trucks to "show" how their gas tanks exploded to Dan Rather, etc., etc., etc.
One exception is FOX news.
But that’s the point. If we wanted liberal crap, we’d go to all the other channels. We want fox news as an escape from all that
You completely missed the point. Faux means False in French. FOX has no record of reporting false news, as the MSM does. The fact that they have a stable of liberal bullshitters serves to show the contrast.
BTW, it's amusing that Juan Williams' son is a conservative.
What about letting those shadowy members of our intelligence community come forward and tell them what they have been saying behind the back about the Muslim Brotherhood working for the other side.
This meme is just as ridiculous as letting gender confused males use girl’s bathrooms.
The Faux News keeps allowing these discussions as if “The CIA” made some proclamation -they did not. We have partisan Democrats alleging that some unknown perhaps partisan member of the CIA made some statement.
Well let that person come forward for questioning, or let the head of the CIA publish their findings.
It’s also irrelevant and immaterial. The American public heard Hillary assert during the debates that Russia was behind the WikiLeaks, and went out and voted for Trump. So there’s no need for any further consideration of this with respect to the election.
Was Barack Obama, raised by Communists and Anarchist terrorists and mentored by a former muslim-turned “Christian” hate preacher”, suitable for office?
