An online movement of men is shrugging off the stereotype that 'cats are for girls' and flaunting their affinity for kitties, writes Hayley Gleeson. And they're giving others permission to embrace a gentler, more thoughtful kind of masculinity.
Myles Loughran is a cat man. 'Cat man' as in, 'cat lady', but with a Y-chromosome. Put another way, Mr Loughran is a man who likes cats as opposed to a man who likes dogs, say, or miniature pigs.
"There's something about cats," the 29-year-old co-owner of Cat Cafe Melbourne tells ABC News.
"I feel they can give you that real dedication that a lot of animals can't. And even though they can be a bit aloof, when they bond with you, there's nothing like it."

“Im looking at getting a pride of cats. The difference is, Im looking at getting semi-feral, outdoor varmint controllers.”
That is the advantage of living between 3 neighbors with barn cats.
They don’t know anything about property lines. I leave a couple of old pie tins with water for them, and we haven’t seen a mouse, rat or snake for over a year.
One neighbor at the end of our cul de sac has the queen of all domestic cats, a Savannah cat. It rules the neighborhood. People walking their dogs keep them on a lease after Ms Savannah enforces the dog lease law on the dogs.
Thanks!
If "male", probably a pajama boy.
Otherwise, a man hating feminazi.
A-meow.
On the contrary, cats live right on that fine line of insanity, and if they were much bigger they would probably kill us and eat us - and I think that just rocks.
Dogs are just so needy - cats act like they could care less if we're around or not (some guys are threatened by that).
I don't know if anyone's noticed, but both dogs and cats come in both sexes (and they don't have 63). As a lifelong redneck cat lover (and dog lover too), I just want to register my objection to this whole project!
My best friends have been cats, and most of them, far from the stereotype, have been very personable and affectionate. Plus all my cats have been good ol' country boys, so cats aren't all "urban" either!
Arg! Why can't people understand this?
Ditto.
Beautiful Pictures!

"Are you sure about that Y-chromosome?"
Agree that it’s a myth that it doesn’t bother cats to be left alone for long periods of time. When we travel — not often, sadly — we have someone live in the house with the cats. They’re very connected with humans.
The ideal might be a mixture of both dogs and cats, to balance each other out. My father, who was pretty masculine, always kept two of both. We had a house in the canyon country, so it was very outdoorsy -- heaven for both dogs and cats.
Glad you liked.
Devil...cats?
The cat on top of the gun qualifies as a Viking Kitty.
US Marine, got dogs, got cats, and this ain’t funny Dude.
If you left out the part about cats, you'd have gotten responses from 500 women.
Well, at least since the Brazilian craze in the late ‘80s.
Sorry for your loss. Been there, done that, no fun I know.
