Hi! A friend asked me to donate to a charity called water.org. Do you think it is a legitimate charity? I'd love to get your advice. Thanks in advance!

Water.org looks like big organisation, lot of salary/job for environmentalist. These type of organisations always have political agenda.
If you have extra money, help some needy family in your local area.

Rule one: Do not donate anything to those you do not know personally. Welfare is the result if you don’t follow common sense.

Here's the Guidestar report: http://www.guidestar.org/profile/58-2060131

It's an organization that aims to help provide potable water to communities in Kenya. Personally, I think the goals are admirable but I think we're not helping by continuing to treat Africans like children who have to be shown how to wipe their noses, etc.

What reasons did your friend give you for why this charity is worthy of your money?

My 10 year old grandsons raised almost $1000 for Serve or Willing Warriors in Haymarket, VA. So do we, also Gary Sinese Foundation or Lone Survivor Foundation.

I did a quick check, found this site which evaluates charities.

Here is the link to my search of that site for water.org.

They gave it 4 stars.

https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?keyword_list=water.org&Submit2=Search&bay=search.results

On that page you can click on a link for more info, which also shows positive info.

Having done a fair amount of traveling in the Third World (including East Africa) such areas often have serious problems with availability and safety water. However,I wonder if this organization might have a political agenda...a leftist one.

I certainly could be wrong,however.

I suppose it is okay to donate to water.org. It appears to be a legitimate charity. But I will not give a dime to that organization for the following reasons:

1. About 1 dollar in 7 goes to administration. That is, that amount goes to pay the people who work for the charity.

2. About 1 dollar in 8 does to raising funds. That is, it goes to professional fund raisers.

3. The charity allegedly builds safe water systems in Africa for people who will not build those systems for themselves. (I would rather build a safe water system in Flint, Michigan than in Kenya. Oh, wait, we did that already, but then the people in Flint destroyed their quality water system with the help of the thugs in Detroit.)

Call me cold-hearted, but we have been pumping tax dollars into Africa for decades to fight the symptom of the day when the underlying problem is that the people on that continent accept incompetent and corrupt governments. Until we address that problem, about 99 cents of every dollar we send to any African country ends up in some tin-pot dictator’s bank account. It is time to let the nations in Africa take care of the problems they themselves have created and which they themselves tolerate.

It would be a waste of money to donate to this well-intentioned charity. Liberals won't take their meds; would never wear the much needed jacket. An ever present danger to themselves and society, though.

Why would a Freeper give money to an organization connected to a Hillary-supporting-liberal-actor?

Never donate to a charity that runs media campaigns advertising for donations. It just means it is a giant scam. Take the UN for example...
