Former Vice President Al Gore touted Ivanka Trump's commitment to a climate policy "that makes sense" Monday night after meeting with President-elect Donald Trump and his daughter.
It's no secret that Ivanka Trump is very committed to having a climate policy that makes sense for our country and for our world and that was certainly evident in the conversation that I had with her," Gore told Chris Hayes on MSNBC's "All In." "I appreciate the fact that she is very concerned about this."
Gore stressed that he preferred to "not give too many details" about the meeting but called it a "very intelligent exchange."
Ivanka Trump has singled out environmental regulation as her primary policy focus as an incoming first daughter, despite her father's past claims that climate change is a hoax propagated by China. Reince Priebus, the incoming White House chief of staff, in recent days said Trump's "default position" on the topic was that most of it is a bunch of bunk.
Gore described both meetings earlier Monday as "very productive" and "extremely interesting," according to pool reports.
"I had a lengthy and very productive session with the president-elect, Gore told reporters. It was a sincere search for areas of common ground. I had a meeting beforehand with Ivanka Trump. The bulk of the time was with the president-elect, Donald Trump. I found it an extremely interesting conversation, and to be continued, and I'm just going to leave it at that.
Despite Gore's endorsement of Ivanka Trump, the president-elect continues to consider Cabinet candidates that have views that run counter to the former vice president's.
Among Trump's top contenders to head the Department of Energy is Oklahoma oilman and Continental Resources CEO Harold Hamm, who was a leading voice on energy policy in the Trump camp during the presidential campaign. Venture capitalist Robert Grady is seen as another potential energy secretary pick.
Trump has considered Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson for secretary of state.
This is not what Gore said .
This is yet again more fake news by Politico.
Gore was supposed to meet Trump’s daughter, but ended up meeting mostly with Trump, where I got the image Gore was told in no uncertain terms that he can do one.
As for Ivanka. She needs to keep her nose out of policies. I don’t trust her at all, and I hope daddy tells her she is cut off if she persists to meddle in policy issues.
She’s NOT a true believer in MAN MADE climate change.
You were never for Trump, but why post this garbage when it is false. You know damn well Gore never said that. he said it was an interesting conversation.
“I’ll wait to hear more, but if Ivanka sides with climate change activists and Donald accedes to her wishes, I’ll bitch to high heaven.”
I hope you do, but in that event be prepared to find yourself on the “outs” as The Donald’s new position will be the gospel for his faithful followers, who will countenance no critical analysis of him. I hope Trump will govern as his acolytes promise me he will. We shall see.
I’m a little concerned about Ivanka & her influence. I think maybe she leans left & has the ability to move her Dad some. I remember her saying she is making pay equity her big issue on the 60 min show once T takes office. I mean she brings in Gore? Al f**king Gore!? Then Gore leaves the meeting encouraged? Of all the people to bring in, how can we not be concerned?
I think everyone has some deep concerns if being honest with themselves - cant speak for everyone else, but for the time being, I trust Trump - we will see what 2017 onward brings and make a call based on that.
You are blind.
Only in the fevered imagination of a few neverTrump diehards.
Good grief. He just stopped construction on Air Force One because it was too expensive.
Trump is going to be the most conservative and effective President since Reagan. He might even surpass Reagan, who, BTW, made a lot of mistakes.
Looking at Gore exiting Trump Tower...I could see his tail between his legs. It was not some kind of win for Gore.
“Are we leaving Barak Obama and Valerie Jarrett only to be succeeded by Donald Trump and Ivanka Trump”
LMAO!!! I don’t care who you are, that’s funny right there.
Because Trump = Obama, right?
Ivanka = Jarrett, right?
FR is making for some great entertainment lately.
“Trump is going to be the most conservative and effective President since Reagan”
That would please me to no end. BTW Reagan managed to ignore Ron Jr. and Patty, and my hope is for Trump to ignore Ivanka. I wonder if it is of any note that the Kushners are moving to DC.
Ivanka Trump would have been around 25 when Gore’s propagand piece “Inconvenient Truth” came out and she probably believes every bit of it.
I’m guessing Ivanka is the daughter who told him Planned Parenthood did good things, too, and had him wavering about the funding early in the campaign.
ManBearPig got a Happy Ending?
Trump, to the contrary, has been a Democrat, has contributed to Democrats, has been all over all issues in recent decades and has very little credibility for consistency. Recently, he has been visited by Mad Dog Mattis and changed by 180° his opinion on waterboarding. He changed his opinion on the minimum wage. It seems that he is changing his opinion on immigration and the extent to which he will remove all illegal aliens. At the request of the very same daughter who arranged the meeting with Al Gore, he proposed a brand-new entitlement to a country $20 trillion in debt. One gets the feeling that Donald Trump is not nearly so Machiavellian as he is malleable for the last person who has his ear.
Even if Trump is as Machiavellian as his fans on this thread insist he is, where is the press release telling us the purpose of the meeting and restating his firm conviction that climate change is a "hoax?"
This is not a minor matter, climate change is the tool, the weapon with which the left proposes to do away with capitalism. If we hand this weapon back to the left and even aim it at our vital center, all of the good intentions of Donald Trump on many other issues will be as nothing. We are repeatedly advised in this forum to refrain from criticizing Donald Trump and give the man a chance. This is advice which is not heeded when we heard of the proposed nomination of Mitt Romney but we are supposed to assume a passive crouch even now when our very capitalist heritage is at stake. The system does not work that way, Donald Trump, for all his unorthodox campaigning, is not the exception to this rule.
I don’t like the sound of this. I guess I’m a concern troll.
