ONE OF A KIND - FIRST GENERATION AUDIO. This is the concert segment IN TRUE STEREO from the 1978 special "Olivia!" Just prior to shooting this segment with a live orchestra, the audio guy asked if I would like a stereo feed of the sound. Of course I said yes and fed two three-quarter inch VCRs with the special feed. Stereo TV was not available widely until the mid-1980s. After completion of the special, I manually synced the 2" master of the show to my 3/4" master and, viola, a stereo version of the concert with Andy Gibb, ABBA, and Olivia! Shot just days before it aired, the ABC-TV special "Olivia!" was the marathon of all television specials I edited while in Hollywood. For 36 nonstop hours, director Steve Binder (my all time favorite) and the post-production crew dashed toward an unbelievable deadline and beat it. This is the entire concert segment. The air version begins at 3:01 and ends prior to "Thank you for the Music" (which was used for closing credits). Please select 480p and full screen (and don't forget headphones!); the quality is matchless!
You sure they aren’t lip sync’ing?
:-)
Wow, it’s like a slightly more rockin’ international version of Lawrence Welk with tighter polyester.
Back when I was around 13 or 14, I had a female friend who had such a crush on Andy Gibb. My crush was with the blondie in ABBA. Funny how these videos can recall such emotions.
You have a way with words, my FRiend!
Heh, they go off-key a couple of places.
Is this the one where they all do a sit down impromptu jamming type thing?
This is excellent, thanks for posting.

This is the part I had in mind.

What a Cocaine Fest!
In the early years, Agnetha (the blonde from ABBA) was a notorious bad stage performer, painfully stiff and awkward to the point of being unintentionally comical. I don’t know if lip-synching helped or hurt her performances. She would try to choreograph her moves to the music and wound up missing other cues. Particularly her interactions with Frida when the two were supposed to move with each other in rhythm were classically stiff. But she was blonde and pretty so who cared?
The biggest regret of mine for missing a concert is when I missed attending an ABBA concert with my Swedish wife.
I had such a crush on Olivia. I actually have Xanadu on Blu-ray.
Nice - a trip back in time to a much better day.
Olivia is hot for sure
I always felt sorry for Andy Gibb even though I was never a fan of his music. He died too damn young. Drugs and addiction had destroyed so many people. I remember that he was dating Victoria Principal for a long time before his death (Certainly a reason to envy a guy!), but she summed it up this way: “I asked [him] either to choose me or to choose drugs, and I know that with all his heart he wanted to choose me... he chose drugs.”
Just a damn shame.
Great song! Will listen to these tomorrow. Meyer has a cold and needs to go to bed.
Thanks for posting.
My first album I ever bought was Have You Never Been Mellow
Beside's her hot looks. She really sold a song when she sang it.
Her smile could melt steel.
Here's Xanadu from a few years back.
