I worked with a man who picked up a case of crabs from a skank in an Oklahoma bar.
Most just caught clap there but No-0-o! He went for the crabs.

In the Cook Islands, the coconut crab is known as unga or kaveu, and in the Mariana Islands it is called ayuyu, and is sometimes associated with taotaomo'na because of the traditional belief that ancestral spirits can return in the form of animals such as the coconut crab. You wouldn't want to eat your ancestor, would you?

When I was pinched, I couldnt do anything until they unfastened their claws, Oka said. For me, ripping the offending claw from the crab's body comes to mind as one possible solution...

I can sell large coconut crabs to restaurants for good money if I catch them alive. It’s the alive part that’s the problem

I was in the South Pacific in May and one of the local women told me about a 3-legged cat she and her husband had adopted. A coconut crab was responsible for the 4th limb becoming detached from the kitty.

The coconut crab (Birgus latro) is a species of terrestrial hermit crab, also known as the robber crab or palm thief. It is the largest land-living arthropod in the world, and is probably at the upper size limit for terrestrial animals with exoskeletons in recent times, with a weight of up to 4.1 kg (9.0 lb). It can grow to up to 1 m (3 ft 3 in) in length from leg to leg.
WTF!!!!

They are quite delicious. We catch them in Hawaii. You make a simple trap with a coconut (like a racoon trap) then throw them right on the BBQ or on the beach fire.
