A Japanese amusement park faced a deluge of criticism after opening an ice skating rink featuring thousands of dead fish suspended in ice.
Space World, in the southwestern city of Kitakyushu, closed the aquarium-themed skating rink on Nov. 17 after an online campaign called the attraction, immoral, cruel and disrespectful of life, reports the Guardian.
The outcry began after a local TV report on the rink, which featured about 5,000 dead mackerel and other fish embedded in ice. Some of the frozen fish were positioned to spell out hello, while others formed arrows to guide skaters in the correct direction around the rink.
According to the newspaper Asahi Shimbun, Space World wanted visitors to have a sense of sliding on the sea. The amusement parks website touted the rink as the first attraction of its kind in the world.
In the face of mounting criticism, officials told Asahi Shimbun that the fish were already dead before they embedded them into the ice. Misunderstanding spread on the Internet that the fish were frozen alive, but that was not the case. We should have explained more.

What you did there, I saw that................
LOL!...................
Would you like your fish baked, broiled, blackened, or Zambonied?
.
Ignorance!!!!!!
Fish don’t die if you freeze them alive.
.
“She froze the fish in a large pan of water and placed it in the freezer whole!.................”
Would have been truly weird if she’d filleted it and still had it come back... :)
They’ll probably revive when they thaw, if the rink is melted for some reason, and if no toxic chemicals were added to the water.
LOL, they were probably not happy they couldn’t easily get to the fish!
I remember thinking to myself as a kid, walking through the areas they were selling fish “Wow...if it comes out of the ocean, no matter what it is, these folks will chow it down!”
I do think it’s pretty tacky. I dont want to skate on dead fish lol.
Maybe it’s a cultural thing. Wouldn’t go over too well in the US :)
“Want fries with that?”
“Depending on the fish, they may survive being frozen, and revive upon thawing.”
I doubt it. The title of the thread reads they froze dead fish, which suggests they got the fish probably from a fish market where they could have been dead for days. I don’t think they can be revived.
They were dead before being frozen into the ice, so no that will not happen.
“Okay, this is just funny.”

Gotta love the absurdity. The memorial part makes it even funnier.
Back in the day there was a disco bar in Atanta called the “limelight” that had live gold fish fish swimming in the dance floor.
Bad sushi WILL come back to haunt you!..................
Just say “Oh, they’re plastic fish models”, and be done with it.
What’s Japanese for “Please do not hack into the ice for lunch. Concession stands are to the left.”?
Keeps air away from the fish and prevents dehydration, freezer burn.
