A group of left-wing Californians, frustrated with the recent election of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States, has filed an application to put a secession referendum Calexit on the 2018 ballot.
The East Bay Times reports that the group, called Yes California, intends to circumvent the U.S. Congress:
A yes vote would trigger a special election the following March in which residents would decide if California should become a free, sovereign and independent country.
Another yes vote would require the governor of the newly minted Republic of California to apply to the United Nations for membership.

A double bonus. No more U.S. tax dollars to calibfornia or to the u.n. Think taxes are high in CA now? My deepest sympathies to our conservative FRiends in CA. Bye felicia.

The parts of California who want nothing to do with this, will secede on their own or with US help.

I believe CA is one of those states that gives more than it gets. I live in KY, which is the opposite.
I do like the idea of losing all those electors for future elections, though.

Won’t happen, but honestly let em go.
Reality they are not self sufficient, don’t even have enough domestic water supplies for their populations, so watching them collapse should they ever actually go through with it would be laughable to watch.
They would wind up invaded and defeated by Mexico in under 50 years.

The conservatives want to leave California and make a new state anyway called Jefferson. The cities in California are milking the rural areas like a whipped cow.

Atlanta in 1864. LA and SF in 2017. Time for a couple of urban renewal projects.

Are these not the same people that derided Texas when secession was mentioned there?
And do not these people recall when South Carolina tried this a while back?

The Free State of Franklin has tried to emerge at several flashpoints in US history. East Tennessee.

Let them go.
I've always felt that forcing states to stay in the union by threat of force was wrong. I won't use that same method against left wing states that want out any more than I would against right wing states that want out.
If CA wants out, let them out.
