CNN Money has reported that Smith & Wesson might be in for a name change. Why would this 164-year-old gun business want to change its name now?
We believe that changing our corporate name to American Outdoor Brands Corporation will better reflect our strategic focus on the shooting, hunting, and rugged outdoor markets, Smith & Wesson stated.
Will the changing of Smith & Wessons name to American Outdoors Brand change S&W forever? Only time will tell.

Amazing how the New Coke fiasco just keeps on repeating itself.
The Edsel
New Coke
The Gibson Robot Guitar
S & W CHANGING THEIR NAME??????
YIKES!
Don’t do it!!!!!
“Insured by American Outdoor Brands Corporation” just doesn’t have the same visual impact.
“American Outdoor Brands Corporation” — WORST NAME EVER, WHO EVER IS BEHIND THIS SHOULD BE FIRED.
Why? There is a lot of brand equity in that name.
Well, after slumping for the last eight years, I guess they had to do something to increase brand awareness.
It is Inprise, Unisys and Navistar all over again.
I sort of like “Make My Day Inc.” - kinda catchy...
First thought when I read this last week or so, and again now, is STUPID. What is wrong with the historical identity and name recognition and reputation of Smith & Wesson (S&W)?! If I were a stockholder, I’d be quite upset as I suspect this will hurt.
Sounds about on par with Yum Yum foods. Not inspiring.
American Outdoor Brands Corporation and Me!
Nothing like killing your brand.
ditto
“Say, is that a American Outdoor Brands Corporation pistol in your pocket....”
stupid move.
Smith and Wesson is such a non-inclusive name. It also is a constant reminder of the evil capitalists that exploited the Native American Indians by creating the firearms that destroyed them and their way of life by exterminating the buffalo. S&W must rid themselves of the evil reminders of their exploitive past or be disinvited from the parties of rich and beautiful.
Whoever is behind this should be shot.
If they are serious they should merge with VSTO, makers of many ammunition and gun related brands.
I suppose that they’ll also be manufactured in China as part of this package.
“Moland Springs???!!”
