I'm not buying it. They'll never get rid of the Smith & Wesson name.

Incidentally, my son and his wife, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, are expecting their second child in April. It's a boy and they've decided his first name will be Wesson.

So now I have to take down my “Home Security Provided By Smith & Wesson” sign?

Yeah, worked wonders for AMF Harley-Davidson.

This is S&W going wobbly again. Their corporate types probably don’t like being pariahs at social events, wives especially. They like the money rolling in from selling guns but they don’t want their hoity-toity social circle knowing that they sell guns.

Time for S&W to feel the wrath of the marketplace again.

American Outdoor Brands Corporation / Huh, so what do they make? Tents and camping gear?

I think they probably do (along with hunting accessories - they bought out some company that makes those recently) and they want a corporate name that reflects the broader range of gear and brands they manufacture.

As at least one other post indicated, the firearms division will still make S&W brand firearms (along with Thompson/Center, acquired in 2007).

Meh, this will eventually lead to their bankruptcy and being sold off in pieces. Would have liked a 686+ but for the infernal internal lock. Oh well, Ruger it is.

That’s pretty good - I’m not sure if the kids at school will give him a hard time about the name or if they will be too afraid to mess with him.

If your son had married a young lady with the last name Wesson, that would have been a hyphenated name I could really support.

Nope. The firearms division will retain the original name: Smith & Wesson. I bet most FReepers freaking out on this thread have ever even picked up a Smith, much less own one.

As long as they keep building the 586 with the same precision, fit and finish I don’t care what they call themselves.

It’s clearly the finest revolver in the world.

Yes, bought a 686 8 3/8” back in 1987. Its like a watch and terrifically balanced for a long barreled handgun.

But the stainless is so...shiny.

Same extraordinary trigger though.

I’m now lusting after the 586 L-Comp:

Changing the company name is not necessarily the same as changing the brand name.

I bought a S&W 642+P for Mrs. Augie to carry as a pocket protector.

As long as it goes bang when/if she needs it to go bang I could give two sh*ts what the corporate bean counters want to call their stupid company.

Try fitting that on the headstamp of a cartridge: “American Outdoor Brands Corporation .44 Mag”.

Its basically a matte stainless finish. Extra-Fine scotch bright type blending pad can tone it down even more.

A little light car spray wax once in a while and after cleaning and we’re good to go.

Great in the inclement weather of a deer hunt. It has 3 to it’s credit. (Tree stand)

“Yeah, worked wonders for AMF Harley-Davidson.”

The S&W Sigma was a complete POS, just like AMF Harleys. The new Gander Mountain in town has about two dozen polymer S&W M&Ps in their used pistol section.

I do not know if they were police trade ins, or people are just getting rid of them for something better like a Glock or Springfield XD.

The 586 is a good revolver, but the Colt Python makes it look and shoot like a Taurus.

Actually I believe the last 8 years have been good to gun makers.

Of course, which makes S&W messing with a winning formula all the more stupid. At least Sperry/Burroughs, International Harvester and Borland had challenges to contend with before changing their names, which WEREN'T the cause of the problem.
