As Hitler's troops withdrew from Poland in 1945, Stalin's Red Army advanced towards Berlin. Instead of liberation, the Soviet troops raped and pillaged as they followed the retreating Nazis.  In January 1945, as the war continued, French authorities sent Dr Madeleine Pauliac to Moscow to assist with the efforts to repatriate any French prisoners of war discovered by the Soviets.

My great-grandparents lived in Danzig from about 1890 until 1945. In 1945, the Soviets made them leave their house by sundown pretty much with the clothes on their backs. In their late 60s and early 70s, they walked back to Cologne where the family had lived until the 1890s. Fortunately, my grandfather had left in 1927 and took his young family to NY City. I never heard stories of my great-grandparents 700 mile march back to Cologne, but I know the rest of their lives in Cologne were awful. I can imagine it was a dreadful march with no clean water, scarce food, and the threat of death and rape everywhere every day. Great-grandfather died the year I was born, 1951.Kind of like what the "Volksdeutsche" did to the Poles in Gdansk, in 1939.

Did Putin Blow Up the Whole Polish Government in 2010? Yes, he did indeed.

Hitlery’s running mate Kaine was heavily involved in “liberation theology” in Central America in the early 1980s. Like Obama and Hitlery herself, he is steeped in communism.

One day in the life of Ivan denisovichshould be required reading in all American high schools. Young people probably don't even know what the gulag was. Maybe they spend too much time learning about America as an "oppressor nation."

Destroying everything else, retreating Germans left stores of alcohol behind untouched hoping that advancing Russian troops would become too drunk to fight. Instead, the alcohol numbed the Russians to the barbarism they would deliver in vengeance. I've never heard that.
What an idiotic idea. Only someone who never drank with Russians could come up with it. On the way to passing out, most Slavic people go through a mean drunk phase. Enabling that in an invading army is madness.

I kid around but there is an element of truth to my posts. Putin is far more of a man than Obama, and I may not necessarily like his motivations, but you cannot help but respect his ruthlessness and efficiency.
There's much that can be emulated by our leaders: A fierce love of his country, nationalism, and a desire to see his people thrive.
Unlike here.
I think that is why you see people gravitate towards him.
It is fine to oppose an enemy, yet respect their character.

Rape, pillage and plunder were a few of the creature comforts available to advancing armies. Unless your military is so well provisioned as to make it illegal to do so, this was the state of all wars before and since with the exception of what we hold ourselves too.

Writing at the time, Dr Pauliac noted: 'There were 25 of them, 15 were raped and killed by the Russians, the ten survivors were raped, some 42 times, some 35 or 50 times each... None of this would be anything if five of them were not pregnant. They would come and ask my advice and to speak of abortion in veiled terms.' Wow...nuns aborting their babies...
One would think that would not even be an option for them...
War is hell as they say..

Hitlerys running mate Kaine was heavily involved in liberation theology in Central America in the early 1980s.Thanks. I didn't know that. I sort of burned myself out these past nearly 10 years researching all this crap, and so have been slowing down somewhat of late. The frustrating thing is, many people here STILL don't seem to get a lot of this stuff.

I saw that movie as a child. Why my parents would want to subject me to something like that, I have no idea.

I don't know if "respect" is the word I would use. But you do need to take it seriously, especially if you're going to publicly criticize him, as many now-deceased reporters and various political opponents had. Or worse, spill the beans on some of his past actions, as at least one, also now deceased, former KGB/FSB colleague of his had.

People who want to hate the USSR back into existence should be the sole recipients of its effects but, sadly, won’t be.

“Couple hundred thousand German women were raped during the battle of Berlin.”
Thousands of German civilians were killed in revenge in some countries after the end of the war.
