Brave Browser (Vanity)
9/30/16 | RetiredTexasVet

Started using the "Brave" browser today after downloading and setting it up last night.

Browser was written by the programmer who wrote Firefox but who was later forced out at Mozilla by the queers, freaks and perverts for supporting traditional marriage.

Browser blocks all ads and popups which makes browsing quick and efficient again.

Not a lot of instructions but most of the setup mirrors Firefox or is intuitive.

Can be obtained free from WWW.Brave.com

Brave doesn’t track you and maintains your privacy. Ad companies also don’t get that information. However, Brave interfaces with the website to allow Bravd to host their ads to then pay the website this money.

Some ads are seen, everything stays 100% private and websites still get revenue.

It doesn’t have a drop down bookmark option. I imported my bookmarks from Firefox, but the bookmarks manager opens in a tab. Not a fan of that.

trying it now. it was easy to download and install. Using windows 10+.

We’ll see. I can put up with some ads. I just hate it when I’m just starting to read and an add takes over my screen or when ads keep making my screen jump up and down or small videos just start playing in a sidebar. I don’t want no stinkin ad videos!

These things have made my puter almost unusable.

For now, Brave is a godsend.

Wow.. VERY fast, even LiveLeak.. will take come getting used to though.

Will also have to wait for a Linux version :/

Do you think there will ever be a possibility of being able to use greasemonkey (like here, so we can get a good view of the posting tree)?

have to wait for a Linux version

Did you check their Downloads page?

Keep in mind this entire project is still in development (meaning not even to beta yet). It is available for 64 bit Linux in both Debian/Ubuntu and Fedora/OpenSuse flavors.

Of course if you need the 32 bit version...

Just had the best user experience ever on Breitbart and Drudge.

Drudge suddenly seems like a place I would like to visit more often.

The plan is kind of hard to explain/understand, but involves “micropayments” from browser users to their favorite sites combined with payments to site owners from “safe” ads supplied thru Brave...some explanation here: https://brave.com/blogpost_2.html

JimRob could potentially start earning revenue from frequent FR users that have set-up a “wallet” (BitCoin) in Brave. Not sure he would want to get involved tho....since he is “ad-free” to start with!

I have from a friend closely involved with Brave and this is what I understood from them about how it works:

Brave will not insert ads without user consent so you have to opt in (which is fair as a means to repay the content provider for using their time and bandwidth).
Ads are matched privately on your device, no signals or cookies out and ad impressions or other attribution/confirmation communicated out, so you can stay anonymous.
Their revenue model is they get a percentage of what they share. So they don’t track you or otherwise make money off of you if you don’t opt-in to the ads, in fairness it is good if users opt in so they can get revenue too. (I have been)

Your problem has been noted and they have logged a bug report for it: https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/issues/4426

How is that for responsiveness?

Sounds good...I have also made a “deposit”(small amt. of BitCoin) and have “opted-in”. This seems to be a good “grand experiment” with less annoying adverts, but not sure it will succeed...the site owners & advertisers may not “buy in”...even though Brave is a viable/sensible alternative. We’ll see I guess.

Been using Brave since this thread started. I ended up ditching it today. The bookmark implementation is just too horrible. Bring up the bookmark tab, try to add a bookmark, and it stutters at each key stroke, sometimes taking more than 30 seconds to respond. Seems like a known problem for quite some time. If I can’t bookmark reliably, and efficiently, it just isn’t worth the time investment.

I don’t think ads would be as irritating as Freepathon blegs that usurp the first comment on every thread, then appear down thread, too.

Yep, I am still waiting for a “bookmarks sidebar” on Brave (the main thing that keeps me from using it full-time).

Brendan Eich (Brave/Firefox) has developed a new crypto currency to be used in the Brave Browser ad revenue experiment instead of Bitcoin. It is called the “Basic Attention Token”.
Crypto currency has been hot the last few months...my portfolio is up like 700%!
