Faster, brighter, water resistant and far more versatile
Ive been using my Apple Watch Series 2 for over a week. I thought I should share a few observations about my experience and try to explain why I think now is a good time for people who may have been curious about the product to take a look.
A little history
Introduced in a blaze of glory after years of speculation, Apple Watch quickly became King of the smartwatch scene. People liked its apps, full feature set and versatility, though people were turned off by application performance speed. Many of the criticisms were answered in watchOS 3 (the new Apple Watch software released this month), which is significantly faster than before on every edition of the Watch. And nearly all the criticisms (bar any aesthetic arguments) are answered in Series 2, apart from the need to make these things truly mobile with a network connection.

Nope. Ugly.
Until you can do the Dick Tracy with it without a phone, nope.
Agreed. Stylistically it looks like something that should be $7.99 in a cardboard drugstore display, or a plastic kiddie toy at a dollar store. I just don’t get the aesthetics of those things at all. Then again, I think the whole smart watch concept is kind of dumb anyway. Why bother with such a dinky little screen when you can just use your phone? Different strokes, I guess.
I won’t give up my Breitling .. ever
Those trend metrosexuals maybe?
Plus, it's always on, and it is incredibly useful... I have one, as well as a Samsung Gear 2 (free with the S7 Edge), but I use the Pebble Time Round more. It's thinner (7.5mm), more comfortable to wear, and it does what I need: reminders, texts, e-mails, and tells the time... :)
And it's platform agnostic - works with all smartphones.
I’ve had my Breitling for 30 years. Still works great and is an old friend
You use the Apple Watch for many things the IPhone simply isn't capable of doing and also so you don't have to keep digging your phone out of your pocket (or purse, if your of the lady gender) to see what the message is or who a call is from, only to find you didn't really need to dig your iPhone out of your pocket just for that. The screen is not as "dinky" as you think it is.
The watch reminds you to exercise on a regular basis, keeps track of your movements in exercising and calories as you move. It monitors your health and in several instances has saved the lives of people who wear one by alerting them to a sudden change in heart function before they are aware of it themselves in sufficient time to get to a hospital.
I use mine as a handy remote control for my TV that I can't misplace. . . and I can answer and initiate phone calls through my iPhone on it. It's also useful in buying things at checkout stands or drive throughs that accept NFC payments without pulling out a credit card or cash. . . or even being used as a boarding pass for airlines. I've also used it for a ticket at plays and movie theaters. The last four star hotel I stayed at a couple of weeks ago the hotel room door responded to my Apple Watch and unlocked as I reached for the door knob. Very convenient.
It will also give me turn-by-turn silent instructions by tapping me on the wrist, whether driving, walking, or bicycling to get me to any destination.
Plus, I can have my choice of multiple watch faces with multiple customized complications that would make any watch collector drool.
And mine is the original Apple Watch in Space Black stainless steel, which will also run Watch OS3. Try any of that with your $7.99 kiddie toy.
I did give up wearing a $3500 Stührling Limited Edition Meteorite Dial Tourbilon mechanical in Rose Gold in preference for my Apple Watch.
My lowly Seiko 5 Automatic needs no battery and keeps time within 2 seconds per day. Not bad for a $50 watch. I may have to buy another replacement in 10 or 15 years.
Yup...I paid $300 for my Breitling in 1986, and it was some of the best money I’ve ever spent.
I hadn’t considered getting an Apple Watch until today when a project manager told me he answered his phone on his watch while he was out in the warehouse. The fitness features seem pretty great too. Maybe I’ll get my elderly mother one instead of a Medic-Alert.
I actually identify with this now since I work exclusively from home. It's is quite liberating I might add.
Keep in mind it does have to be paired with an Apple iPhone 5s or higher. It is not a stand alone phone.
I figured that the 1.2 Mil price tag was sarcasm.
A quality timepiece is a solid investment. The Apple Watch doesn’t appear to me as a 50 year timepiece. I’ve had my Breitling for 30 years, and expect to have it for another 20.
Absolutely not. I doubt it will even have much value within a short period of time. Being a piece of technology it will become outdated even quicker.
Yes of course. His phone was back at his desk in the office. Pretty amazing.
