TAMPA, Fla. - Police say a Florida man asking if a bulletproof vest "still worked" was fatally shot by his cousin.
A Tampa police report says Joaquin Mendez, 23, put on the vest late Saturday and "wondered aloud whether it still worked."
Police say his cousin, Alexandro Garibaldi, 24, pulled out a gun and responded, "Let's see."
Officers found Mendez outside the house with a gunshot wound in his chest. Mendez died at a hospital.

Cheap Russian vest that’s filled with Cotton Balls ?

Darwin AwardHold on--not so quick with that award. It sounds like his cousin just decided to shoot him to see if the vest worked. To truly deserve the award, I think he should have asked for the shot. He didn't, so his cousin basically committed murder, or at best manslaughter aggravated by negligence. But, if he'd asked for the test shot, my take would be the same as yours.

How did they manage that? Did the shooter miss the panels with Kevlar, use too powerful a pistol, or shoot a vest that had deteriorated?
