Ruby Tuesday plans to close 95 restaurants throughout the country, the company announced.
The locations of the restaurants to be closed have not been released, but the restaurants will be shutting down quickly. According to the company's press release, the under-performing locations will stop operations by September.
Ruby Tuesday's had 724 restaurants as of May 31, and 646 of those were company-operated.

“But management did so well with the Morrisons cafeteria chain.”
Wow! Now that’s a name I haven’t thought about in a while. In the mid-60’s to the mid 70’s, Morrison’s Cafeteria was a big deal for our family of five. Eating out was expensive then, particularly for a large family, so we didn’t eat out often, but Morrison’s was one of the go-to places for us, and we kids thought it was a heck-of-a treat, and my mom certainly appreciated the brief break from cooking three squares a day for the five of us.

Just saw a TV ad for them tonite.
I’ve liked them at times when I was near one but that’s been years ago. Always seemed like they couldn’t quite find their niche. Think Chili’s without the mexican bent.
My wife & I last went to the Ruby Tuesday nearest us about 4 or 5 years ago. The smell of mothballs was so strong, it seemed to permeate the food. The experience was so nauseating, we’ve never been back there since.
I understand that Picadilly (or what is left of them after the New York investment bankers did a bust out with them) keeps the Morrison’s name on one cafeteria, probably for trademark preservation reasons.
And of course, Luby’s has been on a downward spiral ever since they named a new president and he ended up dead with a bullet hole in him a few weeks later, with the Pappas outfit out of Houston eventually taking control. (Not suggesting the events are linked).
The brew pubs cater to young families with children an grandparents if they are footing the bill. They heavily discourage drunkeness no disruptive behavior and have good kids plates. The food is not from a standardized menu. One in town makes great homemade soups. They are very casual. Cost is around $10 to $15 each plus the beer. That’s way cheaper than, say, Red Lobster and a little cheaper than Applebys.
We want value and that is value but is the food good?
Excellent.
lots of these mid-tier chains will start going under soon. Smaller portions, fewer menu offerings and now fewer locations.
Yeah, and in the meantime all the fast casual restaurants have sprung up. They’re cheaper, the food is just as good or often better, and quicker. I’d eat anything at Chipotle over Chili’s, and we used to eat at Chili’s a lot around 8-10 years ago. We have eaten in Chili’s once in the past year and it was dirty, slow, the sodas were totally flat, and our waitress didn’t speak English. I’ll just go to Five Guys, Culver’s, or Smash Burger instead.
We quit ordering anything alcoholic when prices really began to increase and amount of alcohol in drinks went down. Can buy a whole bottle of marginal wine at the store for no more than $8 so why pay that for just a glass.
On occasion Roadhouse has specials during the week - buy one meal at regular price and get another for half price.
Neighbor said we have a new steak restaurant which they just raved about. Least expensive steak on the menu is $52. Now that’s BAD, particularly in our area! But seems like they are always busy so what do I know. Just too much for our budget.

I just had lunch today at the Ruby’s near me, I like the place. Sure hope it survives the pruning process!!
I love their avacado club chicken sandwich.
Keep going!
Yep Obama’s economy. People can’t afford to go to Ruby Tuesday anymore. Only a few people are making out like bandits these days.
And yet, many will be voting for Hillary.
These places in my area have lost the private-sector workers as clients, but we have so many government workers that some still do OK. I personally haven’t been in one for many years (and certainly never ordered any alcohol in one). Where you really see the economic deterioration is in the bars; some have closed up (flooding the market with liquor licenses, which drives down their value) while others initially tried to remain afloat by catering to our illegal braceros with their untaxed cash. Now much of that work is gone as well, so the bars are practically empty...
