If parliamentarian Elvira Savino has her way, Italian parents who insist on a vegan diet for their children will risk up to four years in jail.
Savino, from the conservative Forza Italia party, has put forward a law that would hold parents legally responsible for feeding their children on "a diet devoid of elements essential for healthy and balanced growth," according to its text.
"I have nothing against vegans or veganism as long as it is a free choice by adults," she told Reuters on Wednesday, days after she presented the proposed law in the lower house Chamber of Deputies.

I’m torn on this one. I don’t think the government should force parents to feed their children a certain way, although I do agree that a Vegan diet is not good for children.
Just priming the pump for the halal islamic filth now taking over Italy.
Sounds good to me.
Seems liberals want to jail and kill anyone that disagrees with them so this type of action is their way of thinking. They should applaud it.
They need to add "Parents who assert their children are "transgender" ". That is also child abuse.
Vino’s vegetarian, right?
What’s the problem?
There’s a big difference between Vegetarian and Vegan. A Vegan won’t even eat honey. A vegetarian diet for a kid can include milk and cheese, yogurt, eggs, and Mr. Mercat and I did this diet for a year which balanced vegetable proteins like beans and rice or potatoes and cheese (okay, cheese isn’t vegetable but you get the point). We took supplements. Oh, and we ate fish. I saw a family once at Whole Foods checking out with what was obviously a vegan diet. Their kids had zero energy and looked downright sickly. I wanted to slap those parents. I still do. grrrrrr.
Me too. Government is notoriously bad at determining a good diet. To give them the power over everyone’s diet is not a good thing.
But the vegan diet is not heathy and they die younger. Kids need protein and fat for body and brain development.
People on a vegan diet generally think more about the food being eaten than a normal person.
That said i dnt think either government should force a diet on anyone, and I dont think a parent should, force a diet lifestyle on the kids either if they do not want to eat that way. If the kid likes meatballs and sausage and burgers and hot dogs, get good quality stuff and let them have it along with the stuff you want them to eat.
It's kind of a redundant law though, since I'm sure if the parents fed them an improper diet and the child suffered, that would already be covered by the standard child neglect laws.
I had a vegan at my work distraught when I told her that alcohol isn’t vegan because yeast are animals (they’re not really... but she didn’t know that!)
But let all the diverse African Muslims give clitorectomies to their daughters, marry 12 year olds, have multiple wives, and marry their Bacha Bazi boys.

>> “They can still feed them a vegan diet, as long as it’s a properly balanced and healthy one.” <<
Oxymoronic nonsense!
There is no healthy nor balanced vegan diet.
.
They should. I know of some kids raised this way and their craniums were abnormally small, and they were physically lethargic.
I believe they were stunted for life.
Eggplant parmeghan. Go to jail for it?
I would support a law whereby everyone was required to eat porchetta at least once a week.
It tastes good, is a Roman tradition dating back 2000+ years, its good for you - and it would keep the Muslims away. All benefits to society....
“There is no healthy nor balanced vegan diet.”
Well, the resident idiot has chimed in, so we’ve got that out of the way.
Good! Government intervention is usually a bad thing but these parents are nuts..... Childrens diets require certain things....if the parents won’t (not can’t) provide a proper diet that directly will result in severe and delitorious effects on a child they need to be held accountable.....
Obviously your cognitive limitations affirm that you were raised on a vegan diet.
