See my previous post. We used to rely on family for such things, but now alas often there is no responsible family member available. And the "privacy" laws mean you could be fined if you called grand mom down the street to check in on the kid or elder.
What’s the chance your mom jokingly said something like, “I’m gonna have to give up that Brandy in the morning with my eggs” when she was in the ambulance?
Don't be ticked off.
Wouldn't hurt to talk to an attorney though. Some busybody bureaucrat could make your life miserable.
Glad to hear your mom is ok. 101? give her a hug for me. Fire/EMT see a lot of things and their concern is real despite the apparent ham-handed follow up. Count your blessings.
Ditto!!
Many more blessings to your mom and to you.
Helps, but social services could come
Ha! I wanted to make a wise-crack, too, but thought better of it :)
Let it go.
Be glad they didn’t ask you or mom if you have *guns* in the house.
Although I understand your concern; I probably would have said something that would have escalated the visit, had it been me. ;(
Bless you for looking after her. You deserve a lot of praise for that. God Bless.
Tanks for all your comments!
I would let it go. Unless they insist on getting Social Services involved. As the wife of a firefighter/paramedic if they really thought something was wrong, they would have called the police when they came to your house at 10:30. Maybe you were just nervous because your mom was hurt and one guy had a question on the way you answered so the police just checked to make sure everything was alright. If you want to, call and ask for their report or even come right out and ask if there was a problem. They are usually quite accommodating if you just ask, they’re just regular people, too. It sounds like someone maybe over reacted but to me it’s understandable because my husband goes to so many calls where he encounters really abusive people. It still really bothers him that they went to a call and patched up a kid, believed the parents that he had just fallen, and the following week were back at the same house where the father had killed the kid. He wracks his brain wondering how he missed that. That was over 10 years ago.
Lawyers cost a fortune; avoid them whenever possible.
Let this go. Nothing will come of it.
Gd bless your mom and her longevity!
I didn’t know that children breaking their arms in a “spiral fracture” is 95% abuse. I took my 7 yr old son in to the pediatric orthopedist, and we prattled on about how he did a back handspring badly and his foreign coach said he could break his arm doing that, etc. Afterward I realized my dumb prattling, including naming a professional who witnessed it, saved me from being hauled in for questioning. Abusing parents wouldn’t be so casual and the kid wouldn’t be as buff as my gymnast son. It was pretty clear we were in that 5% of spiral arm fractures caused by a few weird sports.
Dear kind soul, they ask these questions because it was a “fall”. I lost my Pop (FIL) 10 days ago. We had to have a formal Coroner autopsy because it was a “fall”. Please don’t stress just yet. Many of these Professionals hate these mandatory protocols as much as you do. Hope she’s doing much better. May God Bless all of you! Poobear...
Oh, by all means get a lawyer and sue the cops.
You are an idiot.
other stuff in the’mouth can smell like alcohol. if she has bad allergies or gets a white coting on her tongue her breath can smell funny. or mouthwash.
i hate big brother. i wish they would get scrutinized daily the same they do to others. see how they like being accused and assumed guilty.
It falls under the same type of intrusion as a doctor asking if you have a gun in your house.
+++++++++++++++++++
We allow this sort of intrusion by law and bureaucratic fiat.
This is why we need a new better.
I can see letting the EMTs come in for a check, but can the cops come in like that unless you invite them? I sure do not want them in my house for any reason, ever................
I had to report my son as missing the other day. The 911 folks and the police were extremely competent and professional. I invited the police readily into my home at 3:30am. It was a mess because we’re in the middle of painting the family room. Fortunately he is OK. ‘Nother story, ‘Nother time.
But my point is that when you really need them, you’ll invite them in in a heartbeat, and give them all sorts of information, to boot. And if everything is on the up and up they probably won’t pry unnecessarily.
My hat is off to the Baltimore County Police Department and 911.
I got the third degree when I dislocated my shoulder. They were checking for abuse, drinking, etc. It was only when I told them part of the real reason I fell that they left off the questioning: I was trying to get away from an uncovered window when I heard people coming down the sidewalk. The ER doctor was a Southern Baptist and laughed his head off. He knew a real reason when he heard one. The other part of the reason was the sidewalk shed that cut down my light so I tripped over the box of Archie comics on the floor. That one was funny too but I didn’t want to get the lanlord in on it.
Sort of the same thing happened to me.
I lived 10 miles away from my mom before she died 6 years ago. One day when my sister and husband were gone on a trip (she lived with them), she called me and asked me to come over and take her to the hospital. She blacked out in her closet and gashed her leg up badly.
I did, and I got some of the same treatment you did, but my mother told them straight out I wasn’t even there and that it was an accident....
I sympathize with you.
Maybe the EMT thought your mom had been out at clubs all night. Does she have car keys, by the way? ;)
