Somebody close to Donald Trump's campaign is apparently leaking something very unhelpful.
Needless to say, having rumors out there that you thought about dumping your vice presidential pick 12 hours after his name started leaking is a bad thing. If you're Mike Pence, you just affixed your brand to Trump's for the next four months -- and perhaps the rest of your career -- and the botched handling of the VP rollout has now culminated in this. Not exactly a confidence-booster.
If anything, this leak is just the latest proof of how poorly the whole thing has been handled. And that poor handling, in turn, makes the rumor seem quite plausible.
Also making it believable: Basically everything the Trump campaign said on Thursday. Here's a sampling (with a big assist from The Post's Robert Costa). All of this came after Pence's name emerged as the likely pick late Thursday morning.

ROFL!!!
So, a rumor got out that it was Pence the day before the formal announcement, and they ran with it. That makes it a “botched” rollout by Trump.
Now, an unsubstantiated rumor is being repeated by one person, that Trump had second thoughts about Pence.
They’re really straining credulity to find any sort of potentially negative angle, pulling it out of thin air, basically.
If so, Manafort helped Trump out by pushing him to be decisive. There was no reason to keep dragging this drama out any further. Besides, any change at this point would seem like an outright public rejection of Pence. All his Indiana people had already become excited at the prospect. The public had already been clearly told it was Pence. The spell of tension and mystery had already been broken.
I guess Dana & Co. have nothing else to report so they have to stir the pot!
MSM is in business of spreading rumors.
Compost hallucinates straws.
Tries to grasp them.
I don’t think any less of Trump or his people for the last minute quibbling. He had never done this before. Not for himself at least. This is an extremely important decision.
The whole (American) world was watching.
Goebbels would be proud of this disinformation and propaganda. Compost writers must be avid readers of Goebbels Diaries.
They are already serving him and taking their daily marching orders from him.
I remember when Lt. Col. Oliver North said he always read two things every day: The Bible and The Washington Post. That way, he understood what both sides were thinking.
Based on how this all occurred, I believe it.
Usually it’s better if there’s something IN the pot.
For this to be true, the leaker would almost have to be Manafort or one of the kids? Who else is close enough to know?
Far from convinced this rumor originated with the Trump camp...
Pence is a pro TPP Globalist i.e. a liberal.
He brings NOTHING to the table for Trump.
No votes.
No Christian votes... what kind of fake “Christian” is he if he is a globalist?
The Establishment force played Trump’s hand on this. Same as Reagan with Bush.
Me too. I was actually HOPING he would have changed to Flynn or someone stronger to handle terrorism.
Based on how all this occurred, I don’t believe it.
North was VP Bush’s patsy on the Iran Deal.
Maybe the leak that it was pence was some kinda crap to build momentum for him, and pence’s people leaked it originally. That would explain Trump threatening to dump him to teach them some discipline.
Who cares?
In the face of new facts he reconsidered (if the leak is true).....that bothers me not at all
O’Reilly asked him point blank last night if he was reconsidering based on the Nice attack and Trump didn’t even blink when he said no, he just didn’t think it would be appropriate to have a high profile presser in the context of such tragedy.
They bean believe what the man himself says or they can make up s#it to fill airtime on their lyin’ networks.
Rumor via Erickson is that Manafort leaked it. He thinks people still loyal to Corey Lendowski inform others of Manafort’s VP manipulations. It’s not out of the question.
Election team members can be incredibly petty , insecure and vindictive,
as Corey himself was reputed to have been.
