New peak for US health care spending: $10,345 per person

The nation’s health care tab this year is expected to surpass $10,000 per person for the first time, the government said Wednesday. The new peak means the Obama administration will pass the problem of high health care costs on to its successor.

The report from number crunchers at the Department of Health and Human Services projects that health care spending will grow at a faster rate than the national economy over the coming decade. That squeezes the ability of federal and state governments, not to mention employers and average citizens, to pay.

Growth is projected to average 5.8 percent from 2015 to 2025, below the pace before the 2007-2009 economic recession but faster than in recent years that saw health care spending moving in step with modest economic growth. …

But this is balanced out by the $2500 we each save, right?

The Uniparty? If they continue to fund this abomination, they will fund single-payer as well. Captain Obvious will even tell us that.

They said that obamacare was supposed to SAVE money on healthcare!

Instead, premiums are rising, jobs and small businesses are destroyed, and the cost of healthcare STILL goes up!!!!

A lot of it’s price inflation.

My dad’s last two weeks of life spent in a hospital (ICU included) in 1971 came to about $3000.

This last February I spent two HOURS in the local ER and it came to $7000.

Have you ever worked that out on the inflation calculators? I’m pretty sure you will find the system is “rigged” far beyond inflation.

"Will the Republicans FINALLY HAVE HAD ENOUGH???"

No, the GOPe will be leading the charge to reform Obamacare with a single payor plan and nationalization of the health care industry. Got to be fiscally responsible you know. I fear even DJT can be negotiated into such a deal to avoid the eventual collapse.

I looked up the $3000 in today’s dollars: $17,795.26.

Our son’s two weeks in the nursery cost around $50,000 five years ago.

Don’t forget the employers who are seeing a 2800 percent reduction in costs! They must be piling up tons of cash.

Haven’t read the comments on this thread yet.

I’ve been on Medicare for 9 years. I’ve paid an average of $1200 a year for the premium. I’ve spent an average of less than $100 a year on health care (mostly flu shots).

With over 300 million people in the US, I don’t believe that the health care costs are $10,000+ PER PERSON on average.

This sounds like the government trying to gouge more funding from Congress for the health care scam.

Just ran the numbers on the “Covered California” website...”Bronze/Silver” plans for 2 people ages 55 & 57 (my wife & I): $10,440.00 per year (average of $870. per mo.)...”Gold”/”Platinum” plans are $15600.00 year (ave. of $1300/mo.). “Bronze” plans have $9000.00 deductibles and $4500.00 for drugs.

Average yearly government cost of Medicare per person: $9,523.00...plus your $1200.00 equals $10,723.00. So an average of $10,345.00 p/p seems about right.
