The age of the dinosaurs ended 66 million years ago, when an asteroid six miles in diameter crashed into what is now southeastern Mexico. The world went up in flames. Dinosaurs, along with the massive reptiles that ruled the sea and the sky, perished as forest fires raged across the globe, dust blotted out the sun, and Earth experienced intense heat, frigid cooling, and then more heat.
Conventional wisdom states that mammalian diversity emerged from the ashes of the mass extinction, ultimately giving rise to our own humble species. But according to a study in the Journal of Evolutionary Biology, the story is a bit more complicated than that and the asteroid that decimated the dinosaurs also wiped out roughly 93 percent of all mammalian species.
"Because mammals did so well after the extinction, we have tended to assume that it didn't hit them as hard," said coauthor Nick Longrich of University of Bath in England, in a press statement. "However our analysis shows that the mammals were hit harder than most groups of animals, such as lizards, turtles, crocodilians, but they proved to be far more adaptable in the aftermath."

Something to think about...
This doesn’t explain the Reptilian humanoid super-race that runs the world from the shadows. Or does it? Paging David Icke...
So by some estimates... we came very, very close to not even becoming an existence and only by chance -a VERY, very lucky chance, did events work out so that we might someday populate our world?
Hard to believe only chance had a hand in that, no?
Ping!
You might find this of interest, mate. :)
Note that you have an unbroken string of ancestors living long enough to procreate. What are the odds of that?
“Something to think about... “
It sounds to me, from this article, that humans evolved from the underground rats that escaped the ash choked atmosphere.
I am certainly no paleontologist, but I thought that the giant asteroid was one of many theories, has something changed recently to make this a fact?
Since you exist — 100%...
Nowadays, liberals will swear it was global warming, not an asteroid.
Joshua A. Krisch needed a few bucks and a byline.
There were so many crocodilian dinosaurs. Wonder why the stubby legged long ones with horizontal posture survived. Maybe they were the ones who stayed underwater the most.
If one contemplates all the things that had to go just right for us to be here, it is amazing that we are here. Intelligent life is a rare, possibly unique thing in our universe. I think we will discover that simple life forms are fairly common. Higher life forms not so much.
No. The K/T event, also known as “the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs” (re: Chicxulub) is still classified as a ‘theory’, as there are many unexplained things that occurred despite that event that does not allow it to be specifically defined as “fact” as of yet.
Do a quick search on such matters and you will quickly find that many inconsistencies still exist which puzzle scientists to this day.
Yeah, I’m with you.
Has this whole asteroid theory been definitively proven?
it seems as if its rats to rats.
Ummmm... have you read at all through this thread? I addressed that exact same question just before your post.
Cheers.
Look just before this post on the thread, hint hint.
An asteroid killing off the dinosaurs is pure speculation almost propagandized like climate change.
There is no direct evidence they were killed by asteroids. I made this comment here once before, and someone came back at me by saying “yes, they can prove there were asteroids”. I agree, many biggy’s hit earth back then, but there is not a stitch of evidence an asteroid fired the fatal bullet.
An asteroid will send airborne gobbs of earthly debris. Much of it will fall in seconds. It’s all heavier than air or it would already be in the air. The finer stuff will stay airborne much like fine volcanic ash, but like volcanic ash, it will fall. The sun light will be interrupted for weeks, not years; much will be over the oceans. Some areas the size of continents would likely be spared.
I mean really, if we want to go down fairy tale lane, I personally think gun toting Christian white males did it. Seriously, why not? They get blamed for everything else.
There are two distinct races of reptilians, and one is subordinate to the other.
Although they look similar, one race is noticeably taller than the other one. It think it’s the greys who are the boss.
They have been working intimately with the US government in DUMBs - Deep Underground Military Bases.
It is widely accepted that the Bushes are greys.
A convenient modification of the theory so it more readily fits the evolutionary narrative. Look for more of the same.
My dad taught me everything i need to know about asteroids...... use preperation h
