Bill O'Reilly, cable news rating king, called for America to get rid of assault weapons. Applying a fair self-assessment, O'Reilly stated that he wasn't very knowledgeable about weapons, so he didn't want to get into distinctions. At one point he was hyperbolic, saying that Americans shouldn't have mortars and a few other battlefield weapons systems.
Sadly, O'Reilly doesn't seem to realize that the Orlando shooter did not use an assault rifle, a weapon that is characterized for the most part by its having an automatic mode. Latest reports are saying the murderer in Orlando used a Sig Sauer, a weapon that can use a variety of ammo types. Early reports that he used an AR-15 have been disputed.
Essentially, O'Reilly needs to realize that these guns, and especially the AR-15, are a gun of choice for controlling small predators. The .223 round has the ability efficiently to take out coyotes, foxes, and the like. Of course it can also kill a human being, but it is in fact less deadly than some larger caliber hunting rifles that also require a separate finger pull for each round. These rifles also have multiple round magazines. 10 Round magazines for a 30.06 are pretty common. And the round has greater knock down power.
So, since O'Reilly didn't clarify, it is safest to assume he is asking for a ban on America's favorite hunting rifles. He doesn't distinguish between automatic and separate finger pull per round, but it is the latter that most 'assault gun' opponents demonize.
Finally, the Orlando terror attack is not about guns. The Orlando attack is about the USA being attacked by international terrorism and by a known wolf. Paris proved that terrorists will have lethal means from bombs to guns because they have connections with terrorists. They have training from terrorists.
The real question of the Orlando murders is how this jihadist son of a Taliban infatuated, Afghan father visited Saudi, had a suicide bomber friend, made multiple threats over the years, and STILL failed to alert those watching for these things.
But O'Reilly, minimizing these facts and not knowledgeable about guns by his own admission, wants to take your hunting rifles.
O’Reilly told Trump the other night there’s no evidence that refugees are infiltrated by terrorists.
Ooops....Paris attackers.
I get really tired of this pompous preening assclown and his not so pithy BS. He has never been on the defending side of the 2nd amendment. Which shouldn’t need defending but because of assclowns like this, we must defend it.
As long as the terrorists are only hitting the average hoi-polloi, this will be the typical governmental respsone.
Falafel Boy is unwatchable. Ignorant, arrogant bloviator.
Just another idiot who doesn’t use them or know the difference between an automatic and a semiautomatic who’s grandstanding for attention because his ratings are low.
Bill O’Reilly is a draft-dodging weakling blowhard. He not only doesn’t know squat about weapons, he doesn’t care at all about anything further than three feet around him. He has his millions, he has bodyguards - why should he care?
Good thing we don’t listen to mewling quim/GOPe traitors.
Yeah - and Gretchen Carlson put up a live tweet poll on her show and seemed a bit taken aback when over 80% of respondents disagreed with re-instituting the “assault weapon” ban.....
Channeling one of my favorites, Ted Nugent:
“Suck it, Bill!”
What a moron.
I could not believe my ears what bill was saying the other night.
I am not a regular watcher and will never be.
And this guy is on our side?
Not. Seems like the only thing we do have is that our Founders, indwelt by God, knew to write that spectacular document(s) which, 240 years later, is the only thing we have to protect us from tyranny.
All this discussion about purpose, characteristics and capability aside, I don’t give a damn. It is no one’s right to question what I need a damn gun for. I don’t have to justify it for varmints, target practice, turkeys, boars or anything! I have a right to own what I want and to carry it. The Second Amendment affirms this right and if it is taken away, then they will indeed have a purpose and use.
No need for any of the gun control crowd to worry. Pretty soon the new open relations with Cuba will make illegal automatic weapons more available and cheaper, especially in Florida.
Bill isn’t smart enough to figure out what the liberal code is.
Assault Weapon: Any firearm.
Sensible gun laws: There will be no guns.
Remember when all the federal agencies were buying up rounds of ammunition by the trainload? Ammo shortages at retail stores?
Who is going to stand for us? Only us. It is rapidly approaching the point, and passing it, that Sir Winston Churchill alluded to when he said, If we won’t fight when we can win, we will surely have to fight when there is no chance of winning. Our only purpose of fighting will be to die as free men, rather than slaves. I did not put quotation marks around the former because it is not Churchill’s quote. It was my paraphrase of it.
O’Reilly showed his ignorance on several fronts. He said we should declare war on Islamic Terrorism because it would allow the military to get more involved in fighting terrorism, the military would have more freedom to detain and interrogate suspects like Mateen.
Since Mateen was operating in the US, clearly O’Reilly was referring to using the military within the United States. Obviously, O’Reilly isn’t aware of Posse Comitatus which precludes using the military in law enforcement. And, yes, unless the military declared martial law, that would be a violation. BTW, you can’t declare martial law if the courts are in session. So, essentially, O’Reilly is saying we should close the civilian courts for the duration.
I haven’t watched that liberal moron in years. Haven’t watched Faux for a long time either. It is clear their Saudi owners are telling them what to say.
If Trump goes ahead of Hillary in the polls after each terror attack, don’t expect elections to be held. The Rats will go for broke, and there will be an “emergency” that does not permit elections.
