The Obama administration is emptying the military’s Guantanamo Bay detention facility of avowed terrorists captured fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, but several American service members languish in another military prison for actions on those same battlefields that their supporters say merit clemency, if not gratitude.
Among the prison population at Fort Leavenworth, in Kansas, are remaining members of the so-called “Leavenworth 10,” convicted service members doing terms ranging from 10 to 40 years for heat-of-the-battle decisions their supporters say saved American lives.
“The very people who protect our freedoms and liberties are having their own freedoms and liberties taken away,” said retired U.S. Army Col. Allen West, a former congressman and political commentator. “I think it’s appalling and no one is talking about this issue."

I too am glad to see this being brought to light. It is the most disheartening thing I’ve ever heard. Hundreds of those convicted of drugs; hundreds (thousands?) of immigrants who have been deported multiple times who commit felonies; and GITMO detainees are all freed, yet those 10 servicemen, trying to save their men, are confined. Justice is definitely not blind in this administration.
I do not know...I read the particulars about 2 years ago, I think from the band of Mothers then too. It was also an appeal for people to write the soldiers in prison.
Memory is not trustworthy after that length of time. I was convinced it was a travesty at the time.

I just hate to see someone behind such a moniker playing kabuki dances of sketchy appeal.
What was the exact thing that each person did. Perhaps this can be a cause for something greater than that person’s own case — a cause for a change in fundamental policy — but shying away from the controversies is never going to achieve that.
I mean sure we can fondly dream about a presidential pardon, but is that going to touch the rotten root, if indeed that is the ultimate problem? I think not.
Thanks for this reminder, seekthetruth. I will make calls on Monday morning. Our military men and women, literally, put their lives on the line and their families sacrifice so much; they deserve our support, appreciation and respect!
