I am a bit surprised that they chose this image to promote their movie.

I don’t see the problem. Worse than this shows up in every science-fantasy-adventure film. Maybe people are objecting because it’s a still, rather than a fleeting visual?
I see that, and figure, “I’m supposed to wonder how she’ll get out of that, because of course she will.”

"This violence in my kid's face is not okay. Hmm, I wonder if this special little snowflake has ever seen one of the video games that kids love to play these days. Between first-person-shooters and the role-playing games where kids do nothing but kill, that picture from X-Men is quite tame by comparison.

Jennifer didn’t seem to mind. She’s pretty tough. She knows it’s all theater. In that sort of movie, her charecter was probably able to turn the tables anyway, and put this ‘man’ under unrelenting pressure.

"Fox apologizes for 'X-Men' ads showing a strangled Jennifer Lawrence 4 months later" Wait:
Are they apologizing for not showing it promptly?
Are they apologizing for showing a four month old corpse? (Yeah, that would be pretty gross, and perhaps they should apologize for that.).
Because that headline by the Mashable people 'mashes' logical sentence structure. I await THEIR apology for strangling the English Language
To convey what they intended they should have said something like: "Four months later, Fox apologizes for showing an image of the character being played by Jeniffer Lawrence being strangled."

I'm about as hardened and jaded as anyone, but I would cringe if I saw this image in public, where impressionable very young people, as well as others of dainty sensibilities, would see it. This is fine
within a theater or a private screening area such as a family home. Out in public for any and all to be subjected to, eh, not so much.
That having been said, it shouldn't have to have become a "war on women" cause celebre. A seventy-five foot billboard depictiing one male strangling another would have been just as egregious.

This whole thing has the feel of a PR stunt to gin up the buzz of the movie. Provoke faux outrage. Get lots of free press for the movie.

I haven’t gone to a superhero movie since they killed off Spiderman’s girlfriend in Spiderman 2. I found it traumatic. Eff em. They’re blockheads, they don’t understand people’s sensibiliities.

Lawrence has had a great career playing mythical, or mentally deranged characters. In real life she has gone overboard bagging on her conservative upbringing.

OK.
But I have no idea what the controversy is.
Is it the name Jennifer Lawrence? Has there been a real life strangling victim with the same name?
Is it assumed that the entire planet has turned into snowflakes?
Anxiety producing movie screaming for a safe place?
What?
Why not just not go to see the movie?
I don't get it.
Why was it OK 4 months ago but not today?
I am totally baffled.

Would there have been an outcry if, say, Professor X were being choked? Or Beast? Or Cyclops?
I thought the goal was equality.
