Today was Memorial Day 2016, and the town I was visiting not only cancelled the parade due to weather, they cancelled the observance as well.
It was barely drizzling. Even then, I could see cancelling the parade, but...the observance as well?
There were several elderly vets, one in a walker who showed up. We held an impromptu personal service, but this was wrong. First time in my life I had ever seen this.
Not my native town, was traveling.
Which state was the town in?
Cancelled here out by UCONN in Ct
Pussies
Seacoast Maine
When it switches over to a memorial day for all of the LGBTQPs that felt sad at some point in their lives, then it will take place even in the middle of a tornado.
This is nothing new. Korean War and Vietnam War vets were totally forgotten for years, even while they were still fighting.
It’s a sad trend of the times. Young people especially, don’t know why these holidays exist, and why these holidays are important.
In some liberal places, they are trying to convert Columbus Day into a day to celebrate American Indians. This ties in with the liberal meme that Columbus was some sort of terrorist, introduced diseases which wiped out Indians, and stole Indian land, yadda yadda yadda.
Happened to watch “Last Ounce of Courage” on TBN last night. Worth the watch. Filmed in 2012; sadly it is more applicable to today’s eroding freedoms than 4 years ago. $9.99 on Amazon.com If more local political and church leaders would take stands for righteousness and quit kowtowing to the social issues beleaguering our nation today. . we wouldn’t be in such a mess.
I drove 500 mikes to set out flags with my my dads old VFW post, and am off to the memorial program now. Cancellation would be necessary only to protect the flags, the ceremony would move indoors.
Chick fil a doing missing man table. Noticed one in Alabama left Bible off table
Like Sodom and Gomorrah, there will be terrible destruction in my opinion. This nation has earned God’s wrath.
I live in a rural area, but houses still close together.
While there are many snowbirds gone for the summer, there is still a sizeable population left.
My porch is the only one sporting an American flag and I suspect that after I walk the neighborhood, I will see few others.
Pisses me off no end.
United States military casualties of war - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_military_casualties_of_war
“This article lists the United States of America’s military dead, wounded, and missing person totals for wars and major deployments.”
I can remember decorating veterans’ graves with US flags as a young Cub Scout during a driving rain early on a Memorial Day. It was the least we could do, IMO.
The middle of a tornado might be a good location for that event.
