An Illinois high school has come under fire after officials refused to let a graduate, who is also a U.S. Marine, walk across the stage Thursday in her blues.
Marine Corps Pvt. Megan Howerton technically finished up her studies at McHenry West High School early in order to start her career as a Marine, WLS-TV reported. But when she returned to the school to join her classmates at graduation, she wasn’t allowed to walk with her class.
"Rules are rules, but just because she's in the military doesn't mean you can break them. The Marines stand for rules and order, so she should follow those rules and order since she's fighting for them,” he said.

Yup. . in the meantime, it should be easy to write the dress-code for graduation to allow service uniforms to be worm.
Our local HS has such an allowance.

I am also a retired USMC officer and I completely agree with you. There’s a time and place for dress blues and a time and place for the cap and gown. She isn’t entitled to special treatment.
Aren't they awful? I''m glad I retired before they decided to make the female uniforms more butch.
Do it anyway, make them physically remove you.

I agree with you. If I were her commander, I’d chew her ass out for being a little jerk for trying to make her high school look bad, for trying to make herself the center of attention, and for besmirching the name of the Corps.
It doesn’t hurt her to wear her uniform under her cap and gown.
And it is NOT a surprise to anyone in the world that the graduation dress is ‘cap and gown’.
My sister completed high school one semester early (December 1971), and was not allowed to participate in her class’ graduation. Peoria, IL.
