Saudi Police cars stop the vehicle safely
An Arab man driving a Mercedes at 190 kph (120 mph) in Saudi Arabia got a shock when he could no longer control the brakes because of a malfunction.
The man was on a motorway between the Western towns of Makkah and Medina when the brakes of his 1991 model Mercedes stopped working.
He called the police, who sent many vehicles to escort his car along the motorway. Eventually they managed to stop the Mercedes by letting it bang into a police car from behind, Sada daily said.
I have an “N” position. That makes the engine go but not transfer power to the car. It will stop the car in a minute or two.
My first thought as well - he rides the brakes so long that they fail, and so he grabs his phone ...
Must be MB’s fault.
And Arab drivers wonder why we don’t trust them on our freeways.
You guys are confusing it a bit. The Saudi was going 190KPH, which is 118 MPH.
So he gets on the cell phone to call the police? Must not have been any traffic. He could have put the transmission in a lower gear and lightly applied the parking brake to slowly come to a halt, if he had enough open road to make a phone call.
Then theres Bob Newharts driving instructor: The other way of stopping? You throw it in reverse.
Foot off the gas and downshift even the automatic.
So a Muzzi banged a policeman from behind in a 25 year old car?
Oh! 190kph. Well that puts it into muslim goat humping territory.
190 kph isn’t 75 miles an hour - it’s a little over 115 mph. And yes, I’ve driven a bit faster.
Audi’s are so good at accelerating they’ll often do it on their own. :)
If I didn’t know better, I’d suspect that this story was posted to get our attention away from Obama’s covering up of the Iran deal...as it is SO BLATANT that we’re getting played here...after being told that the car is a 1991 model year.
Maybe they should let women drive.
That was awful. Off-duty policeman driving, so he wasn’t clueless about how to slow the vehicle, 120 mph, brakes wouldn’t work. Drive by wire, electronic failure. Guess he couldn’t put it in neutral, either. Horrific crash, they died.
Does nobody comprehend shift into neutral and coast anymore? It’s like those idiot Prius stories a few years ago. There are many many ways to stop a car without having to hit anything.
"Freeper slam against Audi vehicles"
Woops. I stand corrected. 118mph. That is quite a bit more than 75. Standing by the calling the Saudi stupid. Drop it in neutral and coast to a stop. All modern engines are governed and wont blow up even redlined for a long time.
