Full title: 'NCIS' Star Sean Murray on Michael Weatherly's Final Episode and New Beginnings: 'People Are Afraid of Change'

It's the end of the road for NCIS' Michael Weatherly.

The 47-year-old star bids farewell on Tuesday to the longtime CBS procedural after 13 seasons and more than 300 episodes playing the charming goofball, NCIS Special Agent Tony DiNozzo. Though Weatherly acknowledged that the end was inevitable, jokingly telling ET's Kevin Frazier earlier this month that he "should've left years ago," his co-star and friend Sean Murray remains hopeful for the occasional cameo.

"[In] the world of NCIS, characters come and go -- even when they're deceased sometimes," Murray, who portrays NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee, tells ETonline. "If Michael were to do the odd episode here or there, or drop in to the NCIS world for a special occasion, that's something that could very well happen. He has talked about [that] and said that he would love to do it."

I can’t imagine NCIS without Dinozzo.

Yeah...they’re breaking NCIS. It was bad enough when Ziva left, and it was even worse when they spun off NCIS: Los Angeles.

Dunno how this will work out. Tony’s up there with Gibbs as a central character.

Los Angeles sucks... IMO New Orleans isn’t bad.

...fortunately I recently took up watching the last eight seasons through library collection.
I never watched originally....but I have noticed the writing seems different, the story lines are not as exciting as the previous 8 seasons...sort of dull to be honest. I’ll watch tonight.

I really don't watch any of them regularly anymore, but I like NCIS: LA. There is more action, and the bad guys are still frequently muzzies. The original NCIS jumped the shark some time ago, IMO. If you watch reruns from the first 6 or so seasons, you can see how much more suspenseful the show was.

I could never get into NCIS: New Orleans, mainly because I got tired of frequently hearing the characters say crap like "Nawlins gits into your soul!".

>>Agree about Ziva. Disagree about NCIS LA....it’s 1,000% better than hokey NCIS: New Orleans. <<

I have been reviewing all the original series on Amazon, I’m up to season 8. Good stuff. 5 to go...

Yeah, they seemed to be doing away with Tony early in the season so I haven’t watched. Definitely didn’t watch the episode with Moo. I will be watching tonight. Extra Special Agent DiNozzo will be missed.

Abby is getting too old for the way out of date goth gig and should have gone into a different fashion direction three seasons ago. Frankly, everyone is showing age.

People complained Bishop wasn’t Ziva but then no one could ever be another Ziva. Bishop’s ok, but the writers should have stuck with the slightly quirky aspects of her character. Instead, she’s just vanilla now.

The more I think about this the more I agree with your statement. I watch very little TV, but have watched this one show pretty regularly, in large part, due to the Tony character.

“Remember when I told you my boss was a sniper?”

Yeah, NCIS:NO is horrible, totally agree. I think my main issue with LA is probably that I don't get the sense of "chemistry" in the team there like I do from the original.

You are correct, we think so too. Don't watch NCIS-LA. We watch NCIS and NCIS-NO. Record for later watching, allows us to 'speed' through the commercials.

I sort of enjoy watching the LA reruns on late at night but then there isn’t anything else to watch. As you said, they take down terrorists. But lesbian Linda Hunt, aka Hetty, is not needed and is a waste of production money. She’s always freaked me out on any show she’s been on.

I simply can not stand the NO show. I want to watch Bakula but not with these costars, especially Lucas Black. Sure, he may be an Alabama native but that accent drives me nuts and I’m a Southern gal. I have to change the channel within moments of him opening his mouth.

What is distracting in both spin offs is the lack of security for the departments. Any 12 year old could walk and take over the buildings in two seconds flat.

Could be a situation where Weatherly’s new psych show fails and he returns after a couple of years being gone.

That has happened to major characters who exited and later returned in other series.

Several seasons ago, when ‘Gibbs’ quit and was in Mexico, it seemed that DiNozzo was being groomed as a replacement. DiNozzo didn’t seem quite able to handle the lead roll, however.

I am a firm believer in 5-7 seasons. I think the writing suffers after 7 years and would like to see the actors doing something else.
