Devastating 'World War ZERO' destroyed ancient Mediterranean civilisations and plunged Europe into a dark age

11:41, 13 MAY 2016 UPDATED 11:44, 13 MAY 2016 BY JASPER HAMILL

Controversial theory finally identifies mysterious 'Sea Peoples' blamed for cataclysmic series of events which changed the course of history

It was a disaster which destroyed the ancient world's greatest civilisations and plunged Europe into a dark age that lasted centuries.

Now one archaeologist think he's worked out who's to blame for sparking an event he calls "World War Zero", but which most academics refer to as the The Late Bronze Age Collapse .

At some point between 1200 and 1150 BC, the advanced civilisations in the Mediterranean suddenly collapsed after a little understood group of vicious barbarians dubbed "The Sea Peoples" swept across the region.

We know about these savage invaders due to ancient Egyptian inscriptions which describe a mass movement of people so brutal that "no land could stand before their arms".

But despite years of study, no academic has been able to fully prove their true identity or explain what really happened in "the crisis years".

Eberhard Zangger, head of an organisation called Luwian Studies , has now stepped in to offer his own explanation for the cause of this ancient cataclysm.

On a new website set up to publicise his theories, his organisation said that previous explanations for the invasion of the Sea People "have failed".

Zangger's zinger of an idea hinges around the claim that a lost civilisation called the Luwians from Anatolia, in modern-day Turkey, may have caused the disaster, which was the result of three great conflicts.

Or
The next 'world ending' event will occur when Earth passes through the a certain spot in the torus of the remnants of a broken ancient comet known as the Taurids (as the Earth does twice a year). Sometime between 1960 and 2040 the Earth will pass thru a dense spot with 2 mile wide dark objects which impact the earth every 12600 years.

I admire how Graham Hancock has remained a step ahead of the current field of fringe writers, including even the legit scientist Robert Schoch. That's not to say I think he's onto something of course. :')

Cretans had some spectacular natural disasters just before the dark period and also traded with some sea-going peoples.

I suspect hot-shot Roman Paul tried some proselytizing among the descendents of the Minoan and Mycenaean Greeks and had the same success he had with the (then) modern Athenian Greeks, and concluded they were all hopelessly stupid.

Luwi, Luwi, oh no, I said we gotta go
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I said
Luwi, Luwi, oh baby, I said we gotta go

A fine little girl, she waits for me
Me catch a ship across the sea
Me sail that ship all alone
Me never think how I’ll make it home

Luwi, Luwi, no, no, no, no, no, I said we gotta go
Oh no, I said
Luwi, Luwi, oh baby, I said we gotta go

Three nights and days I sail the sea
I think of girl constantly
On that ship, I dream she there
I smell the rose in her hair

Luwi, Luwi, oh no, I said we gotta go
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah I said
Luwi, Luwi, oh baby, I said we gotta go

Okay, let’s give it to ‘em, right now!

Me see
Me see Trojan moon above
It won’t be long me see me love
Me take her in my arms and then
I tell her I’ll never leave again

Luwi, Luwi, oh no, I said we gotta go
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah I said
Luwi, Luwi, oh baby, I said we gotta go

I said we gotta go now

Let’s get on outta here

Let’s go!

Thanks!

I’ve been listening to that song on slo-mo since 1963, trying to figure out the lyrics. Now I can get back to whatever I was doing.

:)

So if these Luwians were the Sea People then where are their seaports?

The coastlines are no longer the same. Ancient seaports are found all over the place, far from coasts, and even under water.

Shsman Protogore, the Atlantian, said that Neanderthals did themselves in by roasting Wooly Mammoth. It started global warming. But he never had a chance to release that documentary. His island sunk because of a nasty volcano.

That certainly could have been a factor, but that explanation would be incomplete as people would have had the ability to repurpose the existing bronze, tin, and copper into new uses.

They key thing you missed out on is trade - yes Bronze would be recycled but the trade would collapse.

Crete by then was a backwater. Keeping religion aside - it n ever recovered its place in the Greek world even though it was the largest island with lots of resources.

I had always assumed that since iron/”near steel” weapons were tougher and stayed sharper than bronze and an iron sword or axe can easily defeat the bronze weapon, armies so equipped won easily.

Iron was largely centered in Anatolia and would have changed the balance of power from that direction as soon as that metal’s forming techniques were mastered.

LOL!

BTW, that was confusing — I knew I’d replied to that, but it was in the earlier thread.

Have you listened to Hancock on the Joe a Rogan Podcasts? Doesn’t get better than that.
