DESIGNATED SURVIVOR. From writer-producer David Guggenheim, who wrote two 2012 movies: Safe House (53% positive on Rotten Tomatoes) and Stolen (16%). When the President, Vice President, Speaker of the House, Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Defense, Attorney General and almost all the other top-ranking cabinet officials die at the same time, Kiefer Sutherland finds himself running the United States.

They could even have one of the higher-ranking cabinet members be severely injured rather than killed. Maybe in a coma. Then that person could come back from the edge, and if he's a political opponent of Keifer's, then that could cause additional tensions and conflicts.
If only.
A lot will depend on which Kiefer shows up. The one who played the father in Touch or the Jack Bauer type.
I made it through about 2 and 1/2 episodes of Touch. The constant ‘Jake, what do you want me to do. Tell me, Jake. Is this what you want? Is this what I’m supposed to do, Jake?’ was just too much.
24 was a good series, but some of writing got sloppy and, tyical with a lot of Hollywood, certain agendas were pushed. The Season where Kiefer apologized to the audience for some of the things the actors were scripted to do against muslims was a bit much. Thousands of TVs could be heard changing the channel.
An updated version of 24 is also scheduled for next season. Sutherland will not be in it as as actor, but he is directing or producing. Another actor will take a lead roll, but not as a new Bauer.
CBS (IIRC) is going to do a restart of McGyver. Some of those remakes of old serials work, but most only last a season or two.
Anything that kills so many heads of state is an act of war.
ABC has officially endorsed Kiefer Sutherland for president.
TVLine has learned that the network has formally handed a 13-episode series order to Designated Survivor, a conspiracy-drama that stars the 24 vet as an unlikely POTUS. The early pickup (ABC doesn’t unveil their fall lineup until May 17) would seem to confirm buzz that the project tested extremely well.
Sutherland plays Tom Kirkman, a lower cabinet member who unexpectedly becomes president after a devastating attack on Washington. Season 1 will find him struggling to prevent the country and his own family from falling into chaos, as he is thrust into one of the most difficult presidencies in history.
The cast also includes Natascha McElhone, Maggie Q, Kal Penn, Adan Canto, Italia Ricci, LaMonica Garrett and Tanner Buchanan.
One of the things that happened in 2010's election was that EX-Speaker Pelosi no longer qualified for the luxury of USAF chauffeuring between SanFran and DC as well as Secret Service protection. So, from those stories, I think that the Speakership and President Pro-Tempore of the Senate both get these privileges as Numbers 2 & 3 in the succession. Boy, to have been a fly on the wall in that last trip back to DC in January 2011!
Obviously neither of these 2 positions qualifies as "Designated Survivor" as they attend the State of the Union address along with the V.President. Ah, no more Joe, nodding his head so enthusiastically at every Obama pause!
‘The Last Ship’ is on TNT. It is one of that shows about 10-13 episodes per year.
So far, it has been good. I think it will be heading into a Season 3 sometime in 2016.
And before that, in Battlestar Galactica. The sec of Education got the nod when the Cylons attacked.
Ripoff of Tom Clancy “Debt of Honor”.
“But how did Ted Cruz miss out on the opportunity?”
He was President.
This reminds me of an HBO movie back in the late 1980s or early 90s called “By Dawn’s Early Light.” Darren McGavin (the Night Stalker, A Christmas Story) plays the Secretary of Interior, who ends up as president when a nuclear attack apparently kills everyone ahead of him in the line of succession. Good film.
Kal Penn?!? The boy toy Obama ordered from his TV? Then had his cellphone stolen from him after their time together??
i REALLY like DAWN’S EARLY LIGHT. will have to pull it out. i will look at NOTORIOUS only because of the stars. the only thing i watch on ABC is CASTLE and that really died a couple years ago and is now pronounced.
I read The Last Ship years ago.
It was interesting, but I just can’t see it being a continuing series.
Season 3 starts June 12th. There will be Season 2 marathon on Memorial Day.
